Sacredness?

When I first got interested in the Catholic Church I had this notion that this would be
a church with much traditional Liturgies and much Latin but that’s not
always true. Many priest celebrates what I would call “Strange”
Liturgies. At Mass nowadays some people even play piano or guitar
instead of chanting Gregorian chant with the help of an organ like if
Mass would be some concert instead of the holy Sacrifice. Most Priest
celebrates Mass Vesus Populum and never Ad Orientem. It’s like Mass is
just some friends coming together to have some fun istead of actually
venerating Jesus in the Eucharist. Why is this so? Why can’t we have
real Sacredness in the Church?

While a long and involved story, many attribute what you see to the so-called “Spirit of Vatican II”…misinterpretations of the intent of that ecumenical council in 1962.

Some attribute it to just a general sense of secularist/modernist infiltration into the Church, and a general “watering down” of the faith and worship.

I’m sure it’s a combination of both.

This reminds me of an article I read in the NYTimes a while ago, celebrating the 400th birthday of the King James Version of the Bible.

The writer said, basically, that he was an atheist, but if he ever would believe in God, the KJV would be how he figured god would talk!

I guess that’s because the KJV was written to be spoken, and the English they use is pretty archaic.

God is not archaic.

God can be approached in languages other than Latin.

none of these things necessarily destroys the sacredness, which comes through the action of Christ in the liturgy, which nothing can take away.
