Dear Friends in Christ,
As one who struggles with food addiction, my only recourse is to turn my life and will into the care of God. As a Roman Catholic, I am privledged to have the awesome tools of Our Lords Holy Church. It is my hope that one of the avenues to growth, progress and healing in the “Little Way” will be through this forum. As Fr. Corapi said yesterday in one of his taped conferences, give it to Our Lady. She’ll bring it to Jesus. I had not preplanned to join this forum today yet an email from a friend on a totally different issue came to me this morning. This God incident truly is an inspiration and one which jarred my awareness to seek new growth opportunities. Thank you, Jesus.
I am following the Light Weigh Program. Change is not easy for me. I believe that perhaps through this media vehicle there may be others who are willing to pray, sacrifice and share their journey of obedience to God’s will. Even if you choose not to respond, I ask for your prayers and sacrifices for all Light Weigh members.

Psalm 51:10-12
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Thy presence and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Thy salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Peace and Blessings,

Well, I’m a Light Way member too and I’ll pray for your success.
An addiction to food is difficult to overcome, and I’ll admit that I tried all kinds of diets before I realized that giving God control
over my eating habits would work! I have lost some weight and
it may take a while before I’m in the habit of staying focused on
spiritual rather than physical hunger. This forum does help one stay focused on the spiritual! At least you can find lots of
intentions to sacrifice and pray for!

I had considered starting a Light Weigh group at my parish. It sounds like a great program, but the cost is prohibitive. Most people in my parish are very poor, and I couln’t imagine asking them to spend $125 plus shipping for a 12-week program. How would you approach this problem?

I would like to understand what the program is about-just the high points.

I understand it involves prayer, bible study, and watching a video-that’s all mentioned on the website. But what else is involved? What are some of the videos about? Is there any focus on exercise? More details, please!

You can probably get the answers to most of your questions at lightweigh.com/ , their website.

I went to the website, and found out about the bible study, pre- and post-program prayers, and watching a video. For me, that’s not enough to get my buy-in. Praying, studying the bible, trying to put my life in God’s hands, and invoking the Holy Spirit-I already do that. Along with that, I try to work out regularly and watch what I eat. I want to know more about what the program is than what is listed on the website. As it stands, it’s not much different than other weight loss programs, except they don’t have pretty girls in bikinis, or women saying their husbands call them their trophy wife, and they do use the power of the Holy Spirit (three great points in their favor, btw).

What I thought was an addiction to food was merely a physical response to foods I was eating. Meaning, if I ate sugar, flour, wheat, any grains, even WHOLE grains, beans, or any carbohydrates (aside from veggies and fruits), my body just wanted more. It wasn’t me. It was my physical reaction, too much insulin. Really, if you try going with lean proteins, for me, no dairy, lots and lots of veggies, not the starches, like potatos or carrots, and light fruits, you most likely will not have the same reaction. Ice-cream, frozen yogurt, all that causes a different reaction than chicken in my body, and it might in yours too. Give it a try. Of course, I must add the disclaimer, “check with your doctor.” I hope this doesn’t triviliaze your problem, but I thought I had the same problem, but realized it was a mere physical response to eating processed foods.

Hi Patience 9187! Good luck on your spiritual journey. I really believe that a program like Lightweigh is the answer to compulsive eating. dieting, on the other hand, is not. Dieting is too food focused. I tried to start a LW group in my church, but could not. I found one is that a distance away, and I’m trying to decide whether to join. I will pray for you on your journey.

Do you like the LW program? Do you think it is more difficult than dieting? Thanks so much, Rosie

I am doing Light Weigh also. It’s really good. There is limit on how much you can eat and you wait for hungry. You can eat anything that you want. As for the cost, Weight Watchers cost $144 for 12 weeks(paying as you go). With the Light Weigh, you only pass once and can do the program as many times as you like. I used to do Weight Watchers and the counting the points, etc was getting old and I knew that I was missing the spiritual aspect of the weight loss.

It’s also cheaper than Nutrisystem, which I tried and it worked for a while but I’m a picky eater and I only liked certain meals. Nutrisystem ran in the $200s I believe for a month’s worth of food.

I would like to start Light Weigh but there’s not a group at my parish or any around that I know of. I would try to start a group but I don’t think particiaption would be very good. Does anyone know of someone who has done it individually? I know its designed for a group but I wonder how individually would work?

Oh my gosh! I almost fell off my stool when I read this!! My husband and I are having our Lightweigh Orientation meeting tonight!! So happy 😃 to see other Lightweigh members here, perhaps we can encourage each other. GOd Bless.👍

Bankerdavid. It involves sacrificing, relying on hunger and fullness, and giving up the world of being enslaved to all the dieting rules, it had our Catholic Faith as the focus, the lives of the Saints, the Scriptures. I think and I may be wrong, but if you go to their website and contact them ask them to send you an orientation video and then you can maybe get a better idea. God Bless.

Have you tried OA…Overeaters Anonymous? It is a 12 step program, an offshoot of my own Alcoholics Anonymous. And it would be far cheaper then most of those commercial programs.

Also, I gained abaout 50 pounds after my surgery the moderators won’t allow me to mention in this forum, but I am now down to 170 pounds, using the program of the Confraternity of Penitents and/or the Brothers and Sisters Of Penance.

Had our Orientation last night, looks like we will have a small group, but I prayed for Jesus to send the people HE wanted and I know everybody so I think it will be wonderful.👍

Tried OA and did not like it. Tried TOPS but got burned out with all the calorie/food group counting.

Have any of you tried using Isagenix? About 3 months ago my boss finally got me to try it, and I lost 14lbs in 11 days (24 in a month). I lost a total of 28 lbs and feel great! I have more energy and I’ve been able to keep it off. (This program doesn’t leave you unmanageably hungry, which is what I like about it).

The maintenance is basically a chocolate nutrition shake twice a day, and a lean meal of chicken, fish, pork, or steak - plus dark green veggies. The shakes are “meal replacements” costing just under $2.00 each (can’t buy McDonalds for that!), so it’s about $120./month, but again, you’re replacing “meals”.

If anyone is interested PM me and I’ll put you in touch with my sponsor. She can’t tell you everything you want to know about it. She’s a registered nurse and a nutrionist.

Good luck to you all!
