Sacrifice history

Is there a book I can read about different aspects and tradition of sacrifice, in pagan and Jewish religion leading to ultimate sacrifice of Christ ? Its elements are present even in pagan religions, but it’s something completely not understood by young generation (as opposite to immediate self-gratification). I would like to learn more about it

If you have access to any large libraries, there are some good articles about sacrifice in theological and religious reference books (and even in general encyclopedias), and these articles usually include bibliographies. For example, The Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church, 3rd edition, includes a brief article and a bibliography. The Wikipedia article about sacrifice also includes some book references and links.

As far as Jewish sacrifice, Leviticus is highly engaging.
