A little while ago i committed adultery of which i went to confession and resolve never to do again! Anyway, one thing that i just thought about which may be classed as sacrilege of which i totally forgot to mention in confession is the fact that the Adulterous acts took place in front of a Blessed Sacred Heart picture on my wall!!!

I am sure that is Sacrilege? I should go to confession to admit this sin? Will the priest ask how or will he just accept the sin ‘Sacrilege’ as i dont want to rake up something else that i had already confessed to.

Thanks

No.

More importantly than “in front of a picture”, they took place before God. And you’ve gotten that sin absolved. 👍

Well, i went to confession and told the priest and he gave me absolution and penance. Thanks

Then peace be with you. If the priest needed more information, like WHERE the sin took place, he would have asked. :signofcross:

Thanks all. I am so glad i went to confession about it though.

This would be an interesting question if the picture itself were blessed. Sacrilege implies desecration of something the Church, not you, considers sacred, although even blessing something doesn’t necessarily make it sacred.

I agree but as it bothered me i thought it best to seek out my priest. I feel better now that i confessed it. I thank Our Lord for confession! How other faiths manage i do not know!

Ahh… but only Churches (Orthodox and Catholic) offer confession that bring with it absolution from Jesus (since only these Churches inherit Jesus’ warrant of forgiveness as found in John 20:23).

Anybody can lay claim to ‘confession’ – only an Orthodox or Catholic Church can offer ‘absolution of sins’. 😉

Yes, the Assyrian Church of the East has valid sacraments, AFAIK. Yet, you claimed “plenty of churches.” 🤷
