Sacrilege?

I have a question about the sinfulness of something I did. I’m very scrupulous, so I tend to inflate things. I received Communion, but rather than sitting down, I left to wash my hands in the bathroom, and then I came back to the pew. A bit of the Host was still stuck to the top of my mouth when I went into the bathroom. Is it wrong to “bring,” so to speak, the Host into the bathroom in my mouth like that? I recognize that it might have been a bit irreverent, but I’m mainly concerned that it was flat-out sacrilege.

You have done nothing wrong.

Your story reminded me of my First Communion. I was so nervous beforehand that I could not use the bathroom, even though I knew I would have to go during the Mass. So I found that the best way to go without interrupting anyone was to receive Communion, and instead of going back to the pew, walk out to the bathroom, then come back and re-join the Communion line, and slip into my pew when the line got to it.

There is nothing wrong with this or what you did. It’s not like you just walked right out of the church like so many do.
 
Sometimes a piece of the host gets stuck in my teeth until after mass, and I’m loathe to pick it out with my fingers or use a toothpick. So it stays with me until it dissolves naturally or I drink some water.

But, no, you didn’t do anything sacrilegious.
 
I often feel guilty when I am walking away and the host is still stuck in places 😊 I am sure its more common than we think that people come away and still have slithers. I think though if the intention is to cause damage then its wrong.

But if its simply that we haven’t properly swallowed it yet for numerous reasons then really we shouldn’t be feeling guilty as but its hard not to I agree:)
