Sacristant needs official guidance

I have recently volunteered to be the Sacristant at our church. I just can’t get consistent answers on how I am to perform my tasks according to the Magisterium.

I made the mistake of telling the Eucharistic Minister Co-ordinator that I was going to put a box of cotton gloves in a discreet place for those volunteers who are not comfortable in touching the consecrated hosts from the tabernacle while setting up. I was chastized and reminded that the Eucharistic Ministers don’t wear gloves. I explained to her that helping the priest during the celebration of the Mass is not the same as someone who is setting up prior to that.

Is there a site that I can go to that will go into great detail about how my duties are to be performed? I have a manual from church, but it is very basic.

Why on earth would anyone be touching the consecrated hosts while setting up for Mass?
 
Best thing is to talk to your priest and see how he thinks it should be done. He will know what’s right/wrong. PLus, no-one will contradict you if you have him on your side.

Consecrated hosts are NEVER touched with gloves for the same reason Communion is not received in a gloved hand.

As for “official guidelines”, all you need are instructions from the Priest or Celebrant about what he likes and what the local customs of your parish are.

I really doubt that how mass is set up in a parish church is a Magisterial concern.
