The medal I bought off the computer has arrived !
Kind of exciting for me - it’s not like a book arriving -
And from Rome - strange stamps, etc
Now to figure it all out -
Someone shared this link with me two weeks ago.
Any other cool things - would be appreciated -
I think the next step is to get it blessed by the hands of a Priest.
It said the Pope blessed it -
But I doubt it passed through his hands 😇

Very nice ,Seagull 😃
My mum ordered some scapulars from the US,arrived here last week (Oz) .
Now to have them blessed.

The Popes have often blessed thousands of items held up at the daily appearance on the Square.
He doesn’t have to hold it in his hands FYI

These items are placed in a room. The pope comes by and blesses them all at once. I saw JPII do this once when accompanying the OSB Abbot Primate back in '96. He allowed us to walk with him to the room. So, I assure you, it does not need to be blessed again.

Exactly! If every item blessed by the Pope had to go through his hands, he wouldn’t have time to be Pope. He blesses items at the end of Wednesday audience at St. Peter’s and the Vatican Store beings boxes of items purchased to him to be blessed. Then they are shipped.
When I visited Rome a couple of years ago, I brought the religious items I had purchased to a Wednesday audience to be blessed.

There are exorcism prayers that are particular to the St. Benedict medal. These are different prayers than the standard priestly blessing given with the Sign of the Cross.

Our parish priest is very busy and the St. Benedict medal blessing does take a few minutes and some holy water. I dropped mine off at our parish office and they called me a couple days later to pick it up once Father had blessed it.

I wear my St. Benedict medal on the same chain as my 4 way cross. It has been a source of grace and protection for me. This sacramental is a special gift. Thank you Holy Mother Church! St. Benedict, pray for us!

I would say, though maybe it will cause trouble that it is more likely than not that the priest will just bless the medal.

I asked my priest to bless the medal and he went straight away to do it in the usual fashion. So it would have just been a blessed medal. Thankfully, I had the Blessing Prayer in my hand which he reluctantly picked up and read.

Priests are just busy persons, and they get used to blessing things fairly quickly in their usual way.

I can relate to the “reluctantly” part. A Franciscan Priest started reading the Saint Benedict Medal blessing that I brought and then halfway through he stopped and asked if he has to finish because it’s “already blessed” but when I pushed him to, he finished. But I feel like he was in a hurry and maybe didn’t fully understand the need for proper blessing. It’s probably best to just drop it off at the Office so the Priests can do it on their own time and not be rushed.

I don’t know if there’s anyway of knowing if the Pope gave it the proper blessing or just a general blessing with many items at once. If you don’t know for sure the Pope did the specific blessing, I think you should have your Priest do it.

As I think of it,
it is - pretty wild - that the medal was within a mile of the Pope !

as a side note,
I heard the Pope, for a guardian angel, has Gabriel !
( Fr. Rippenger suggested that, not me )
