I attended Saint John Cantius Parish in Chicago for the Low Mass It was amazing. The sermon was solid. Is the Society of Saint John Cantius a traditionalist society, because I know they celebrate the Novus Ordo. Do they prefer the TLM over the NO, or are they more of the reform of the reform?

The Canons Regular of St. John Cantius (as they are now called) celebrate both the Tridentine Mass and the Novus Ordo. The Novus Ordo is celebrated ad orientum in Latin with all the “bells and smells” of the traditional Mass. Both Rites are celebrated with great reverance and solemnity.

Okay, first Latin lesson for the C man.

Oriens is Latin for east; it’s a third declension noun, and the preposition ad takes the accusative case. For third declension this will be ad orientem, ‘towards the east.’

Many of us had the misfortune of not being accorded a Latin education. I’m sure you didn’t necessarily mean it this way, but some could easily take your post as condescending.

The gentleman had a thread about wanting to learn Latin, and this was the single most common error I have seen in the forum. My apologies for the tone, although I doubt that anyone with the screen name Caesar could complain on those grounds.

Anyhow, in reparation I will accept any humiliations coming my way if we ever get a thread started about Church Slavonic, Ukrainian, and stuff like that.
