Does anyone know any info on this seminary, Saint John Vianney College Seminary? I went to meet my vocations director and he said this would be a great place for me b/c its a seminary with the college feel since its located on st. john vainney college.

Yes, way up north lol I’m from mississippi so it mut be cold yup there but anyways yes the one in Minneapolis.

They have a website you could check out. I don’t know too much about it, but am aquainted with a guy who goes there. He’s solid and talks well about the place.

St. Joseph’s College Seminary in Chicago is probably similar with it’s relation to Loyola University.

Yea i have been to the website a couple time just looking around… I might vist up there this chirstmas break… Well good to hear people are talking well about it

The St John Vianney College Seminary in Minnesota is located in St Paul on the University of St Thomas Campus.

While it did have problems ten or more years ago, it has been pretty well straightened out and is now far, far more orthodox. I know, slightly, the Rector, Father William J. Baer.

They have about doubled in size over the past five years and now have a record enrollment, many coming from states outside of Minnesota.

Right now, the SJV seminary at UST is the largest college seminary in the U.S. with 142 seminarians. The local graduates generally move on to the St Paul Seminary School of Divinity upon graduation.

It would be a good choice for you.

Take a look at two posts I have made about SJV on my blog:

Hey thanks, I looked at your blogs… But what problems were there? Im just curious and its good to hear they are conserative, bc I am

I don’t really have any direct knowledge of the problems of ten or more years ago, but I would imagine that they were the same as were rampant in most of the other American seminaries at the time.

Relativism, progressivism, anti-Latin, loose on hetero/homo-sexuality in the assumption that priests would soon be able to marry, etc.

But the staff has been totally changed.

I was actually going to be going there earlier in the year (so I thought)
then God said “no”
through the Bishop 🙂 God Bless our Bishop!

What I know about the seminary is that its just awesome. apparently the seminarians all make a holy hour in the morning before Holy Mass. how awesome is that?

as for me, God seems to be pointing me towards Priesthood (i was even in a summer candidacy program with the Legionaries of Christ this summer and discerned it was not God’s calling for me, great Priests though! love the Legion) and it seems to be between Diocesan (in which id prolly end up at St. John Vianney Seminary actually, since my Diocese Joliet - Bishop Peter Sartain, pray for him!!!- uses that seminary and Conception Seminary College on Conception Missouri.

God’s Will be done!
pray for seminarians! they battle constantly!
pray for those discerning!

God Bless, Mary Keep,
Matthew

On our local catholic radio channel the other day they interviewed three high school students that went up there for a visit. The host of the show asked them if there was anything that surprised them in their visit. One student said they were told right off “This is an orthadox college”. I was glad to hear that.
