Saint Matthew's Churches?

I got a letter in the mail today, addressed to Resident, probably first warning.

On the back of the letter envelope, it said;

Dear Jesus,
We pray that you will bless someone in this home spiritually, physically, & financially. And please Dear Lord, bless the one who’s hands open this letter. Make good changes in this one’s life and give them the desires of their heart. We pray over and bless this letter in Your Holy name. Amen.

There seriously was that much underlining going on. But what struck me was thefinancially. Is it really this obviously Prosperity Theology?

And, so I open the letter, just to see if my worst fears are confirmed, and why yes, I believe they are. In it, it gives testimonies of people who have been ‘blessed’ with large amounts of money or nice material things, and includes a prayer card that you are meant to send back to them, with fill-in options including;
-a better job
-a home to call my own
-a new car
-a money blessing
-Pray for God to bless me with this amount of money: $_______
-Yes, I want the free Deuteronomy 8:18 Prosperity Cross, blessed by the church
-enclosed is my seed gift to God’s work of $________

Oh yes, that Prosperity Cross. It says that if you mail back, they will send you a “Free, Deuteronmy 8:18 Prosperity Cross, blessed by the Church.”

They also include a “Prayer Rug,” that if you use, will grant your heart’s deepest desires, with testimonies on people using it and getting large sums of money afterwards. It is a piece of paper, with a picture of Jesus’ face, and the inscription “Church Prayer Rug.”
At the bottom it says;
“Look into Jesus’ Eyes you will see they are closed. But as you continue to look you will see His eyes opening and looking back into your eyes. Then go and be alone and kneel on this Rug of Faith or touch it to both knees. Then please check your needs on our letter to you. Please return this Prayer Rug. Do not keep it.”
Oh yes, and there’s a copyright.

There is also a picture of the church. It shows the Cathedral of Saint Matthew, and a bunch of people, including a bunch of ‘priests’ (I doubt they really are) dressed in very Catholic priest’s garb. They also claim to have bishops of their Church.

And one last note before I throws this away and throw up, they direct you to aboutsaintmatthewschurches.com and biblicalprayer.com.

Does anyone know exactly who these guys are? I am quite confident they are not Catholic, but some weird Anglo-Catholic Christian cult.

Now I’m going to go throw up.

Nope, no possible way they’re Catholic. There’s a woman in “priestly” garb in several of those photos.
 
I am getting these in the mail also. One today and one yesterday.
 
Ha, my mom got one yesterday and she gave it to me, thinking it was Catholic…then I got one today.

I guess they mass mail these things once every few years, because I got one about five years ago.

That letter is all about prosperity. 😦

Those pictures on their website are so catholic looking.
 
if there is any threat involved or any demand for money under threat of harm, and it came through US mail it may be in violation of USPS codes and should be reported to postmaster
 
Naw, no threat or demand of money.

It’s a paper prayer rug, you are to pray on it, write your prayer requests, and mail it back to them. Then they will mail you a blessed cross…

I got the same thing just this week, for perhaps the fourth time in my memory. I love to receive these along with the JW tracts that are often stuffed in my door. Our CATHOLIC school gets paid for recycled papers and I would like to advertise right now:

ATTENTION ALL WHO WISH TO SEND ME JUNK MAIL WITH A FALSE ‘RELIGIOUS’ MESSAGE: Send me all that you can. I will happily take more! Got Jack Chick tracts? Send me a whole carton!

That sounds like a really good idea. Too bad I brought mine out to the garbage bin in my garage. I didn’t even want that in the garbage in my kitchen, it’s stench would’ve been too near. :cool:

Sadly, I’m sure there are many vehement anti-Christians who think these people are seriously Christian and use this as an attack against Christ and His Church. 😦
