Just wanted to draw peoples attention to the 70th anniversary of the saint of Aushwitz.

Maximillian Kolbe’s story and the way he lived his life and the way he met his death is one of the biggest inspirations for me joining the catholic church.

I also feel a kinship with St. Kolbe. When the subject has come up before (particularly with young people) about all our saints being ancient history, St. Kolbe inevitably comes up-to remind us that we have saints in our presence daily, whether recognized by the Church or not. Thanks for the notice!

As a member of the Militia Immaculata he is one of the major influences in my life and faith.

His life of faith and martyrdom set an example for us all.

I think it’s appropriate his feast day is this Sunday the 14th and that in many places the Bishops will have moved the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed virgin Mary to this Sunday as well. St. Max will no doubt rejoice in his feast and hers falling on the same day. To me, it will be a double joy!

More info on St. Max and his life and work.

St Max. Was the first St I ever prayed to. I have always felt close to him. St. Kolbe, pray for us!

What would you all recommend to be the best book about his life? I would like to read his story, but there is SO much out there, I would like some suggestions.

Novena Prayer to
St. Maximilian Kolbe

O Lord Jesus Christ, who said, “greater love than this no man has that a man lay down his life for his friends,”
through the intercession of St. Maximilian Kolbe whose life illustrated such love, we beseech you to grant us our petitions . . .
(here mention the requests you have).

Through the Militia Immaculata movement, which Maximilian founded, he spread a fervent devotion to Our Lady throughout the world. He gave up his life for a total stranger and loved his persecutors, giving us an example of unselfish love for all men - a love that was inspired by true devotion to Mary.
Grant, O Lord Jesus, that we too may give ourselves entirely without reserve to the love and service of our Heavenly Queen in order to better love and serve our fellowman in imitation of your humble servant, Maximilian. Amen.

(Say 3 Hail Marys and a Glory Be)

Can you all walk me through what I have to do to become a member?

(NB: I have already done the consecration, and say the prayer every day “Oh Mary conceived without sin…” , but I feel I should re-do the consecration)

Also, I used to receive correspondence from the MI Friars, but have moved and must have been dropped from their list. Contact details, please? 🙂

Also, does the consecration take several days or is it done in just one day?

St. Maximilian Kolbe’s awesome! He’s my confirmation saint!
You’re right. He is awesome, especially in regards to what his life and death can teach us about self-donating love and forgiveness. May his example draw us closer to the sacred heart of Jesus through the immaculate heart of Mary. Incidentally, he’s my confirmation saint as well. St. Maximilian Kolbe… Pray for us.:signofcross:

I am a member of the Militia Immaculata and have been for several years. To join the Militia Immaculata all that is needed is to follow the instructions at the link that I am posting below. You have to prepare yourself before choosing to consecrate yourself on a particular Marian feast day.

Here´s the link:
consecration.com/default.aspx?id=199

After you are consecrated you will be sent a 2012 monthly prayer intentions leaflet where it has the consecration prayer you are to say daily and St. Maximilian’s prayer to Our Lady of the Miraculous medal.

Another requirement once you are a member is to wear the Miraculous Medal. St. Maximilian himself did so and recommended that others do so.

I hope that you will choose to be a member as it is a great way to honor Our Lady.

God bless
