St. John Damascene had his hand cut off by evil men. He prayed to the Theotokos. She came with the Divine Infant and restored his hand to him because he had written so well of Her.

The saint on my birthday is St. Francis of Paola. However, Pope John Paul II died on my birthday and so I have always thought that he was my saint even though his feast day is on a different day.

On the Byzantine calendar, Dec. 26th is the Synaxis of the Mother of God and the Feast of St. Stephen is Dec. 27th. So keep celebrating!

OK so I guess there’s not official teaching from the church on birthdays. Hum. Only Baptismal dates. And for a child that would be when they were baptized too then?

I celebrate my birthday, Baptism & Chrismation day and my First Holy Communion day. Tertullian hated birthdays and said that one should celebrate their baptism day b/c that’s when one becomes a child of God. (Btw, he left the Church and started his own sect.)

Sure let’s tell everyone our birthday.
Why not? God allowed my mother and me to survive my birth on the 9th of November (Feast of the Dedication of St John Lateran in Rome :+1:t4:) and I have no problem telling anyone and everyone about God’s gift to us, and celebrating it.

I also hold dear my name day (October 1), the anniversary of my baptism (November 23), my First Communion (May 10), and my confirmation (April 5). And because I love dates, I hold dear June 11 (St Barnabas, and the anniversary of the day I entered the monastery) and August 10 (St Lawrence, and the day I left the monastery two years after entering).

And whether you tell anyone your birthday or not, there’ll be a cake by your username on the date you gave for your birthday when you signed up. 🎂

😃

Birthdays on this forum are already marked with little cakes that pop up. One is free to list a “wrong” birthday in one’s CAF info of course, just as one is free to not post in the thread if one is concerned that others might find out his birthday.

Tertullian left the church. Hum figures. He talked about a lot of other sects. If I remember right the Gnostics which we know little about; who founded them and their connections. Jesus could’ve dealt with who he wanted. Including the Copts. AFAIK their Pope is legit. Who says Jesus and his followers, our Apostles didn’t found the Copts or a gnosis like sect, or had a connection.

My birthday saint is Teresa of Avila. I have a couple of medals of her for that reason. Also have several of her writings (some that I’ve read before, others that I’ve been meaning to read).

I’ve tried reading her autobiography half a dozen times over the years (decades), but have never been able to get half way through it.

Ironically, I find St John of the Cross a much easier read. 🤨

My birthday is St. John Paul II, and I saw him several times in the eighties and nineties, here in the US, and in Rome. It is an awesome feeling to say that one has actually seen one’s feast day saint in the flesh.

Jesus and His disciples did NOT found Gnosticism. In fact, St. John the Beloved Disciple and Theologian battled against Gnosticism during his life. Read his three Epistles (1, 2 and 3 John).

The Coptic Catholic Church was founded by St. Mark, the disciple of St. Peter.

I understand they didn’t. They’re ideas can be very cryptic, they are meant to be. But when Jesus came around, he could’ve had some kind of contact. Or as some say, they “adopted” him into their sayings. Who says he could not have went by and said “Hey”.

I was born and baptized the same day 🙂 which I have come as an adult to really appreciate. I was born three months premature.

Birthday: St. Mary of Egypt
Baptismal Name: Jude (also used him for my Confirmation)

I have always had trouble connecting with St. Jude until recent months.
