Saint or Satan?

Is the Angel of Death, Avariel as he is sometimes referred to, a Saint like the other angels is he Satan? Or is he perhaps one of the already named angels? What is the Church’s teaching on this issue?
 
I think Avariel is just some name some fantasy writer came up with for a character or race. I don’t think it has any base in any religion, even pagan. I might be wrong though.
 
I did a search on Angel of Death in the online Catechism and could not find any reference to the name you gave.

Then I did a search in the New Advent Encyclopedia and came up empty also.
 
That’s because it’s Azrael, not Avariel; my mistake. That isn’t necessarily his name either. Regardless the question still stands: is the Angel of Death a Saint or Satan? Is it proper to give the Angel of Death devotion?
 
I did a google search for Azrael: I found that he is an angel named in the Muslim/Islam tradition.

I went to New Advent (Catholic Encyclopedia) and did a search for Azrael and came up with 0 results.

However, I did typed in Angel of Death in New Advent Search field and came up with these hits: click here to see results
 
This really ventures into folklore.

Inasmuch as the “angel of death” is mentioned in scripture, it is just a personification of death itself (not a real personal being) or is a manifestation of God.

Some angel may specifically be assigned to “death” like angels are assigned to people, and nations, and groups…but there is no particular teaching on this…

Satan is an angel of death, obviously, as are all demons.

But then again “angel of death” is also the hand of God himself.
