Saint Patricks Peace Parade - need some advice

The first parade is called the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade and this is the original parade- an Irish Catholic parade.

There is a second parade in Boston that was formed 4 years ago(its theme is justice) and it starts 2 hours after the first.

I am checking to find out if they have the same route as I believe they do a similar route.
According to the internet, there are about 700,000 people who attend the second parade.

I am so angered that they call it Saint Patrick because it is essential a liberal protestant (thought I am sure there are many liberal catholics included)parade with many gay groups marching openly. Because this is Boston, I am sure many gay groups come in just to march.

I would like to make more people in the area aware of this by say writing an article to a newspaper and/or protest but then again say maybe I should leave it alone as maybe people don’t know about it.

I know I’d be very angry if I went a a parade by mistake and thought it was the original Saint Patrick’s Day parade and it turned out to be this parade and I might leave totally confused.

You could write a letter to the editor of the newspaper, I suppose. I’m not sure what you mean by protest. People have a right to free assembly.

In this day and age a “St. Pattys Day” parade is more about being Irish, green beer and partying than honoring a saint.

I see no reason to be upset about it…no one own’s “St Patrick” anyway, do they?

Why would exercising the right of free assembly upset you? Surely you’re not advocating refusing equal access for those you deem not worthy to march in a St. Patty parade…are you?

I think I’ll call the local radio station and think about a letter to editor. I wasn’t sure because sometimes it makes matters worse.

They are saying they have around 700,000 people, but I think this may be some of the original crowd for the 1st parade that gets there late and stays.

Although it may be just gay groups or families that come in from all around. It is posted all over the gay sites and newspapers about this parade so I am sure they want it to be a huge success. The gay newspapers are free in some of the public libraries here.

I was surprised to learn that they don’t let pro life people in either parade. The original parade says it is just about family life and don’t want activism.

I don’t know why but the second peace parade and the gay pride parade, neither allow pro lifers to march.

Saint Patrick’s parade is also about family life and that is why so many families attend with small children.

I am not oppose to them having their own parade but I am oppose to them using the name Saint Patrick. Saint Patrick as you know is a catholic saint. Do you think there would be outrage if they called their parade by a name familiar to muslim identity? I bet the parade would be canceled.

Your post is confusing to me. Typically the Parade is about Irish Catholics getting together and marching. When I was young we always marched in the Detroit parade. There was also a breakfast at the knights and family fun. The drunks are usually at the bar by 07:00 and that’s where they stay.

The reason we do not approve of alternate parades is because of the meaning behind the Irish Catholics getting together. We feel that it’s disrespectful.
