Saint Paul in Letter of the Romans

In the September 30 edition of National Catholic Register, I was reading an article by Roseanne Therese Sullivan on Roy Shoeman. Within the article I found the following paragraph and was wondering if someone could explain it’s meaning.

" I think that we are living in the times that St.Paul alluded to in the Letter of the Romans when the number of the Gentiles is close to complete, when the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled, the veil will be lifted from the eyes of the Jews and there will be a wave of Jewish entry into the Church, and that will be the final completion of the Church to precede the Second Coming."

The part which I do not understand and have never heard is the part about “the number of the Gentiles is close to complete, when the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled…” What does this mean?

25 For I would not have you ignorant, brethren, of this mystery, (lest you should be wise in your own conceits), that blindness in part has happened in Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles should come in. 26 And so all Israel should be saved, as it is written: There shall come out of Sion, he that shall deliver, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob. 27 And this is to them my covenant: when I shall take away their sins. 28 As concerning the gospel, indeed, they are enemies for your sake: but as touching the election, they are most dear for the sake of the fathers. 29 For the gifts and the calling of God are without repentance.

Thank for your answer, but what does “until the fullness of the Gentiles should come in…” mean?

Apparently in the divine plan of salvation there is a quota of Gentile converts to Christianity yet to be reached, and, once that quota is reached, then Israel’s partial blindness will be removed and most, if not all, of Israel will also convert to Christianity.

The person you quote in your original post seems to think that this quota of Gentile converts will be reached soon.

Thanks so much for your answer. My dense head needs translations. 🙂
 
The thought occurred to me that the quota that is being talked about could possibly be people converting or entering the Catholic Church, not necessarily converting to Christianity. With western culture, as well as the rest of the world, becoming more and more secular do you think this would be a reasonable assumption?
