Never heard of anyone who was devoted to him or John XXIII; John Paul II is pretty popular among the faithful in my country though

It might be too soon. I imagine he will be a popular patron for pro-life activists because of Humanae Vitae.

What country is that if I may ask? Poland?

I thought there’s usually a base prior devotion before canonization, isn’t that how canonizations get started?

I meant widespread devotion. I myself hold off until that person is beatified at least.

Brazil! Saint John Paul II is very popular amongst the faithful involved in conservative movements

Does anyone have a particular devotion to him? Why? 🙂
My devotion to Pope St Paul VI are the memories I cherish of this saintly man . . . . . . . . his love for the Blessed Virgin Mary , his serenity , his patience in suffering , his reforming spirit , his ecumenical spirit , his search for world peace , his evangelization , his pilgrimages to far away places , his earnest struggles for unity in the Church , his prophetic spirit , his embrace of the Holy Spirit , his gentleness , his love , his devotion to the Eucharist .

POPE SAINT PAUL VI , PRAY FOR US .

I would imagine some people are devoted to St Paul VI or else no one would have prayed for him to work the miracle for his canonization.

With respect to St. John XXIII, he was popular in his day and I have seen a couple churches with big statues of him. His main problems are that many younger Catholics aren’t familiar with him (unless they are trads who don’t like what he did) and that St. John Paul II is so popular, he overshadows all the other sainted Popes.

I remember that during his reign my grandmother had a large picture of Pope Paul hanging on the wall at her house.

Thank you. That is beautiful. I just preordered a book about his life.

Yes, people mourned his death like they did with every single Pope; doesn’t mean that he have a widespread cult

I had a dream once that St. John XXIII appeared to me. I don’t have a specific devotion to him. But it was lovely.

Usually devotion flourishes among the people closest to him, particularly where the saint grew up.

For Paul VI, that would be Brescia, a diocese in Northern Italy where the Alps begin. His name Montini suggests that locale. The first part of the process for canonization should have started there. He is already considered a patron of the diocese. Nearby Milan, where he was archbishop for a decade before he was elected Pope, also probably has strong supporters.

Between Milan and Brescia, Bergamo is the home of John XXIII. He was an engaging, pastoral fellow who is probably still remembered by people in the area, even if it is only second hand memories from stories they heard from their parents. He was patriarch of Venice before he became Pope, so there is probably a cult there.

Both of them were recognized for their work in the curia, but that is not the place for a cult to form.

doesn’t mean that he have a widespread cult
He had one.
Many of those who venerated him have passed on.
In USA he was on a level with JFK as shown by the popular painting called “The Peace Sowers” that many Catholics had hanging in their homes.

I don’t know how old you are, but based on your posts I’m guessing you’re too young to remember or have heard from others about him.

i am not 100% sure why Paul VI was elevated to sainthood

miracles?

i was young; but St Paul VI seems to me to’ve been a fairly mediocre Pope
