Saint Peter and Death in Conversation

Ok so, in the military there is a cadence with Saint Peter in it, and sometimes people speak of death as an “Angel of Death” in the third person. We often think (or at least in some media) that we are going to meet them when we die. So… has anyone ever thought “uh-oh, I shouldn’t say the wrong thing!” In a way because you think they won’t like you when you meet? I’m actually pretty excited to possibly meet Jesus Christ even if he has a busy schedule. It’s a pretty big incentive to get your sins out in confession because maybe you have to be somewhat holy within to get the opportunity. Still, I wonder if anyone’s considered Saint Peter and the “Angel of Death” in that regard… that you can say or do the wrong thing and end up in an afterlife jail?

And, I don’t want to find out by example!

I don’t know about others’ experiences, but as far as I’ve noticed-- there’s not really a whole lot of idle chit chat. Everything is very succinct and to the point. And there’s a whole lot of “knowing” stuff— things don’t really need explanations, they just are. And because there’s a whole lot of “knowing” stuff, there’s no room for explanations, or for argument, or for discussion. It just Is, and you know it, and anyone else there knows it, too.

Hollywood versions of the afterlife are cool, but there’s a certain Magnitude that people can’t humanly convey. Being able to experience a fraction of that Magnitude— whether you experience it as Love, or as Power, or as Omnipotence, or whatever aspect you get to experience-- it puts you in your place, for sure.

So, if we talk about those who might have a “say” in where we go in the afterlife, guessing they know we said something about them during life, is that a reason to avoid mentioning them?

Ok here is my understanding based on Church teaching.

St Peter is an Apostle whom also was the rock Jesus built His Church on. St Peter was the first Pope.

I have no idea about Angels of death. When it’s our time to die, we die. St Michael the Archangel is pretty awesome though.
We are eternal, thanks be to Jesus sacrificing himself to restore us. We died and were resurrected with Jesus.

We are judged by God, after death, and our soul goes either to Heaven ( if we are a saint ) Purgatory ( where all us sinners will most likely end up, to be purified before we can enter Heaven, or hell if we chose to reject God).

Then in the second coming, we are all resurrected bodily, reunited with our soul, judged again, then spend eternity with God, or in hell if we reject God.

Now my Priest says in Heaven we are all equal, all Holy, all glorifying God. So a cardinal, a priest, a homeless person, all equal. No idea about martyrs though, I didn’t ask.

God is the one who has a say about us after death. Hopefully Saints might intercede on our behalf too.

Please don’t gossip. Holy Father Pope Francis told us not to gossip.

Thanks for the reply. It wasn’t intended as gossip, it was intended to be a unique question. Perhaps even a bit scary as we know that what we do “counts” for something, and we all want to enter heaven.

St. Peter had the biggest case of foot-in-mouth disease in the entire New Testament. I sincerely doubt he is going to be zinging anyone for anything they say, as he would totally be the pot calling the kettle black.
