Hail brothers and sisters!

I’ve been interested in looking up information on the saints, and I wanted to see what sorts of prayers there were on them.

If there were any in specific, I’d say some on Saint George, Saint Louis IX of France, Saint Joan of Arc, Saint Thomas More, Saint John the Baptist and Saint Peter. If there’s any information on these, please help me out.

Thank you,
-MontChevalier

Hi, MC…

Your question is a little confusing. Are you asking for the devotional prayers attached to the saints? Or the prayers said when asking for their intercession?

:doh2: Whoops!

I should have added that. Both, actually. 🙂

Hi there MontChevalier, first of all, I would like to thank you in your desire to convert to Catholicism. May The Holy Spirit guide you on your journey to The Truth always! I will pray for you, friend. 👍 Oh, and I wish you a very Happy Easter!

Secondly, I would like to remind you that when we pray to the saints, it is not by their grace that our petitions are fulfilled. No one but God is responsible for the miracles of the saints. Only by Him is the intercession of the saints possible.

Peter said, “I have neither silver nor gold, but what I do have I give you: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, (rise and) walk.” …]
Then Peter took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles grew strong. …]
When Peter saw this, he addressed the people, "You Israelites, why are you amazed at this, and why do you look so intently at us as if we had made him walk by our own power or piety? (Acts 3:1-12)

It is by the Grace of God that whatever we ask, we will be granted. The saints are our friends in heaven who deliver our prayers to The Lord:

"The twenty-four elders [the leaders of the people of God in heaven] fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the* prayers of the saints**" (Rev. 5:8)*

To us the saints are like role models; examples of great people who have followed Christ’s teaching. They are second in importance to Christ Himself, who is The True Master. We honour them, remember their merits and follow their example, and in times of need, we can ask them to intercede for us (which is a fancy way of saying ‘intervene’). For example, I could pray to Saint Cecilia (patron saint of musicians) to help me with my music studies. She would then deliver the prayer to God, and, if God approves of it, by the Grace of The Holy Spirit, Saint Cecilia can help me with my studies.

Here are a few links for the prayers you mentioned:
Prayers to St. George: patron of Great Britan and the Armed Forces, remembering his merits as a brave warrior
St. Louis IX of France
St. Joan of Arc
A prayer composed by St. Thomas More
To St. John the baptist
Saint Peter

I hope that was a help for you. God bless you always!

Yes it does. 🙂

And thank you. Happy Easter to you. 😃

MontChevalier, I suggest that you buy a two volume set called Modern Siants: their lives and faces by Ann Ball. You can buy them off TAN books, I own them and you don’t know just how many times I’ve read them. You can buy them here: tanbooks.com/index.php/Modern-Saints-Book-2

Speaking of the saints (and beati, and venerables, and people known for their holiness), I always search and read about those saints who were the most devoted to the Blessed Virgin. They are my favorites and without a doubt the holiest saints there are. Saint Therese, Saint John Bosco, Saint Dominic Savio, Pope Pius IX, Pope Leo XIII, Pauline Jaricot, the Cure of Ars, Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, Saint Maria Goretti, Jacinta and Francesco Marto and their cousin Lucia Santos, Saint Catherine laboure, Elizabeth Ann Seton, Siant Bernadette Soubirous… man, I must stop or else I’d be going on forever! Oh, and theres Saint Louis de Montfort, Garrigou Lagrange, Siant Anthony Mary Claret, Giuseppi Moscati, Saint Anthony of Padua, Saint Anselm, Saint…;)👍

In fact, just the other day (on Good Friday) me and my dad spke to each other about the Blessed Virign Mary and he said that when a sinner wants to change his lif eor convert, who does he go to? He does not pray tot he saints ebcause he doesn’t know alot aobut them; he doesn’t even go to God because he fears that God will punish him; he goes and prays to the Blessed Virign to help him convert and make him a saint because deep in his heart he knows that She, who is the Mother of Mercy will not reject him but will welcome him with love and lead him to God.

I suggest reading True Devotion to Mary, I really do. You’ll never find a better book for your spiritual life.

Are there really that many Saints?

I have an account on Amazon.com and on Borders.com and Ebay.com; one of these is bound to have the book. Thanks for sharing with me.

I’m still kindof new to Catholicism, but the Saint’s who’ve interested me are those Warrior-Saints. I’ve read my fair share about several other Saints, such as Saint Francis of Assisi, and Saint John the Almoner.

Are there books on Mary too?

Who is the author of “True Devotion to Mary”?

You’d be surprised 👍 Our Creed includes ‘the communion of saints’, which is a way of expressing that all of us, members of the Church, are a community (hence ‘communion’) in union with the saints and angels in heaven, as members of The Body of Christ.

“so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” (Romans 12:5)

Click here for a list of canonised (i.e. official) saints in the Catholic Church.

Warrior saints, you say? How about:

Saint Michael, the archangel

Warrior saints tend to be martyrs, in other words, people who were persecuted and killed by their faith in Christ. I recommend that you go to these websites for a list of warrior-associated saints:

The author of True Devotion to Mary happens to be a saint; Louis de Montfort.

Catholics have a very special devotion to Mary; we honour her because she is the mother of Christ, and therefore, the closest person to Him next to The Father and The Holy Spirit.

I hope that helps, God bless! Oh, and please, feel free to PM me for any questions you might have.

Tan has quite a few good books on the saints. 😃

Guardian Angel Prayer**
by St. Gertrude the Great

O most holy angel of God, appointed by God to be my guardian, I give you thanks for all the benefits which you have ever bestowed on me in body and in soul. I praise and glorify you that you condescended to assist me with such patient fidelity, and to defend me against all the assaults of my enemies. Blessed be the hour in which you were assigned me for my guardian, my defender and my patron. In acknowledgement and return for all your loving ministries to me, I offer you the infinitely precious and noble heart of Jesus, and firmly purpose to obey you henceforward, and most faithfully to serve my God.

’O Lord My God, Grant . . .’ Prayer
by St. Thomas Aquinas

O Lord my God, Grant me a mind to know Thee.
A heart to seek Thee. Wisdom to find Thee.
Conduct pleasing to Thee.
Faithful perseverance in waiting for Thee.
And hope of finally embracing Thee.

I’ve read my fair share about several other Saints, such as Saint Francis of Assisi,
I love Saint Francis of Assisi! I was born on His feast day and have always felt a strong connection to him. Same with Saint Padre Pio and Saint Anthony of Padua. Oh and Saint Maximilian! Haha what can I say…I’m a big fan of the Franciscans. Who could forget the 33 doctors of the Church too! Wow I could go all day listing Saints.

😃 Well, I just ordered these books on Borders.com:

So I should be getting a sense of greater knowledge of the saints.

Our Church holds a weekly Novena to St. Jude with benedction of the Blessed Sacrament.

It’s quite involved and very rich.

The text is here.
