Vergilius of Salzburg (700-784) came from a noble family of Ireland.
In Ireland his name was Feirgil.
He settled in France. He was an adviser to Pippin the Younger, who was Mayor of the Palace.
 
Vergilius went to Bavaria, at the invitation of Duke Odilo of Bavaria.
He founded the monastery of Chiemsee. He was made Abbot of St. Peter’s at Salzburg.
