Apologies in advance for this vague question.

I remember hearing somewhere that a female saint was about to be beheaded and as her executioner approached she was glad that it was a “manly man” as opposed to a weakling.

Again, vague question, but it’s been annoying me.

Anyone have any idea who this saint was?

Thanks!

Did you know that back in the middle ages when some important person was going to be beheaded, it was custom for the condemned person to “tip” the executioner, to insure he used a sharp blade and a well placed stroke to make it clean and expedite.

Sometimes the executioner was careless and then instead of 1 stroke perhaps many were needed to finish the job. Imagine the gore and blood not to mention the pain inflicted on the poor condemned person.
