The Church can make somebody a Saint and everybody who goes to heaven is a saint, right? But that is referring to people.

Now, angels are angels. Not people. So… how can St. Michael (the archangel) and St. Gabriel (the one who spoke to Mary) be Saints if they are angels??? Were they made Saints by the Pope?:confused::confused:

Thanks for answering my question!!

From our own Ask an Apologist Forum:

"Dear Tom,

Yep! Originally “saint” simply meant a Christian. But now to be a saint has come to mean anyone (other than God) who is in heaven. Angels are in heaven so they are saints.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P. "

not true and not true
the Church cannot make any one a saint, the most she can do is declare that a specific person is in heaven on the basis of the evidence, spiritual and from their life.

Everybody as in every human in heaven is a saint, but that does not mean the term is restricted only to humans. It simply means sanctified or holy and refers to everyone, including every spiritual being, the angels, because nothing and no one who is not holy can enter heaven. Your misunderstanding simply arises out of one common use of a common English word, in ignorance of the derivation of that word and its meaning.

According to my understanding, the pope or the Church, does not make someone a saint.
Sainthood only recognizes the fact that the person is in heaven, and that is God’s doing:)
