March 13, 2013 - Wednesday, 4th Week of Lent:

Collect (Opening Prayer):
“O God, who reward the merits of the just
and offer pardon to sinners who do penance,
have mercy, we pray, on those who call upon you,
that the admission of our guilt
may serve to obtain your pardon for our sins.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.”

that those who glory in the name of Christian
may never cease to proclaim your wondrous deeds to all.

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.”

“St. Patrick (389-461) was sent by Pope St. Celestine I to preach the Faith in Ireland. After thirty years, St. Patrick had converted the whole island.” (Daily Roman Missal, MTF.)

March 18 - Saint Cyril of Jerusalem, Bishop and Doctor of the Church (Optional Memorial):

Collect (Opening Prayer):
“O God, who through the Bishop Saint Cyril of Jerusalem

Sharing this reflection from today’s Euchalette, p. 1:

Blessed Are the Merciful, For They Shall Find Mercy

"As we proceed in our Lenten pilgrimage, today we are enriched by the unforgettable example of Jesus who offers his forgiveness and restores dignity to the adulterous woman who had been dragged in front of him in shame and fear. The teaching of mercy and forgiveness conveyed last Sunday through a parable, today is offered us through an example from real life.

The challenging sentence: 'Let the one among you who has no sin be the first to cast a stone’ is directed not only to the hypocritical scribes and Pharisees of two thousand years ago, but also to those among us who easily judge and condemn others. We should never forget that we, too, are frail and sinful, and that we must learn to be merciful if we want to enjoy God’s mercy." (p.1.)

March 19 - Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Solemnity):

Collect (Opening Prayer):
“Grant, we pray, almighty God,
that by Saint Joseph’s intercession
your Church may constantly watch over
the unfolding of the mysteries of human salvation,
whose beginnings you entrusted to his faithful care.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.”

Today’s Scripture readings and reflections:
ymlp232.net/archive_gbmbuqgjgu.php

“St. Joseph is considered the second greatest saint - second only to the Blessed Virgin Mary - because of his humility and closeness to Christ as his foster father. Scripture reveals St. Joseph was just, pure, gentle, prudent, and unfailingly obedient to the divine will. The only meaning of life is to be faithful to the Lord until the last day, as was St. Joseph. Pope Bl. Pius IX named him Patron of the Universal Church, and Pope Bl. John XXIII included his name in the Roman Canon (Eucharistic Prayer I.” (Daily Roman Missal, MTF.)

March 19, 2013 - Tuesday, 5th Week of Lent:

Collect (Opening Prayer):
“Grant us, we pray, O Lord,
perseverance in obeying your will,
that in our days the people dedicated to your service
may grow in both merit and number.
through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.”

March 20, 2013 - Wednesday, 5th Week of Lent:

Collect (Opening Prayer):
“Enlighten, O God of compassion,
the hearts of your children, sanctified by penance,
and in your kindness
grant those you stir to a sense of devotion
a gracious hearing when they cry out to you.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.”

Every day, every moment, there is Holy Mass going on somewhere in some part(s) of the world. Every day, every moment, too, there are many people unable to go to daily Mass but who would want to join in spirit the Church’s Liturgy for the day.

This thread may help. It will provide the saint being honored by the Church on a particular day, plus the day’s “Opening Prayer” at Mass, which reflects the tone or mood of the Celebration. Knowing this mood can help us to join in spirit the Church’s Liturgy currently taking place somewhere in the world.

Other saints who have been canonized but are not listed in the ORDO or Roman Missal will also be posted. Their life narrative can be obtained through the links provided, including a link to Odhiambo’s ‘Saint of the day and Feastdays’.

Viewers are also welcome to add information or comment that could help bring the saints and the Liturgy of the day closer to us and within our reach. Thank you.

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.”

through the apostolic labors and zeal for truth
of the Bishop Saint Turibius,
grant that the people consecrated to you

March 24, 2013 - Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord:

Collect (Opening Prayer of Simple Entrance):

“Almighty ever-living God,
who as an example of humility for the human race to follow
caused our Savior to take flesh and submit to the Cross,

“On this day the Church recalls the entrance of Christ the Lord into Jerusalem to accomplish his Paschal Mystery. Accordingly, the memorial of this entrance of the Lord takes place at all Masses, by means of the Procession or the Solemn entrance before the principal Mass or the Simple Entrance before other Masses.” (Daily Roman Missal, MTF.)

HOLY WEEK:

"In Holy Week, the Church celebrates the mysteries of salvation accomplished by Christ in the last days of his earthly life, from his messianic entry into Jerusalem, until his blessed Passion and glorious Resurrection.

Lent continues until Maundy Thursday.

With the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Maundy Thursday begins the Easter Triduum, which includes Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion and Holy Saturday, centres upon the Easter Vigil, and concludes with vespers on Easter Sunday of the Lord’s Resurrection.

The weekdays of this week are dedicated to the celebration of penance, abstaining from celebration of the sacraments of baptism (except in emergency) and confirmation, since these have their natural place in the Easter Vigil." (Ordo, 2012.)

March 25, 2013 - Monday of Holy Week:
(Normally, the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord is celebrated on March 25. However, since the ‘Solemnity occurs during Holy Week, it is transferred to the Monday after the Second Sunday of Easter’, which will be on April 8, 2013.)

Collect (Opening Prayer):
“Grant, we pray, almighty God,
that, though in our weakness we fail,
we may be revived through the Passion of your Only Begotten Son.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.”

Palm Sunday - Today, as we commemorate the Lord’s entry into Jerusalem, let us join His disciples as they proclaimed: 'Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.’ (Lk 19.)

March 28, 2013 - Thursday of Holy Week (Holy Thursday):
Today, we have the Chrism Mass in the morning and the Mass of the Lord’s Supper in the evening.

The Chrism Mass:

Collect (Opening Prayer):
“O God, who anointed your Only Begotten Son with the Holy Spirit
and made him Christ and Lord,
graciously grant
that, being made sharers in his consecration,
we may bear witness to your Redemption in the world.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.”

"1. The Chrism Mass is one of the principal expressions of the fullness of the Bishop’s priesthood and signifies the close unity of the priests with him. During this Mass, which he celebrates with priests of the diocese, the Bishop consecrates the Chrism and blesses the other oils.
  1. This Mass takes place on Thursday morning. The concelebrants may also (con)celebrate the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper…
  2. Those receiving communion at the Chrism Mass may receive again in the evening, at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper
  3. Lent ends before the Evening Prayer is celebrated. The Easter Triduum begins with the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper, ending with the conclusion of Vespers on Easter Sunday. *Evening Prayer *today is celebrated only by those not participating in Evening Mass." (Excerpt from Ordo.)
