July 3 - St. Thomas, Apostle (Feast):

Collect:
“Grant, almighty God,
that we may glory in the Feast of the blessed Apostle Thomas,
so that we may always be sustained by his intercession
and, believing, may have life
in the name of Jesus Christ your Son,
whom Thomas acknowledged as the Lord.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.”

“Among the apostles, St. Thomas is remembered chiefly for his doubt about the Resurrection of Christ. The Sunday after the Resurrection, he made up for his unbelief with a profession of faith, “My Lord and my God!” According to tradition, he preached the Gospel as far as India, where he was martyred.” (Daily Roman Missal, MTF.)

Sharing some thoughts from today’s Euchalette:
"Today we are reminded that God continues to care for all human beings, including those who reject Him and wander far away in their moral life. Some of the clearest signs of His caring love are the prophets that He sends to His people to remind them of their duties and to make them understand the great harm they cause to others and themselves through their misbehavior.

Jesus, the greatest of all prophets, experienced the bitter taste of rejection and warned his disciples that they, too, would be treated in the same way. Far form discouraging us, this should bring us to do our best to be faithful to our prophetic mission in the Church and in society, following the example of Jesus himself.

In (today’s) Eucharist, let us ask for the grace to do just this, no matter what the cost." (p. 1.)

July 9 - St. Augustine Zhao Rong, Priest, and Companions, Martyrs (Optional Memorial):

Collect:
“O God, who in your wonderful providence
have strengthened your Church

Saint Augustine Zhao and companions,

faithful to the mission entrusted to it,
may enjoy ever greater freedom
and witness to the truth before the world.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.”

"Saint Augustine (1746 - 1815) was a Chinese diocesan priest martyred with 119 companions. Among them was an eighteen-year-old boy, Chi Zhuzi, who cried out to those who had just cut off his right arm and were preparing to flay him alive: “Every piece of my flesh, every drop of my blood will tell you that I am Christian.” (Daily Roman Missal, MTF.)

July 11 - St. Benedict, Abbot (Memorial):

Collect:
“O God, who made the Abbot Saint Benedict
an outstanding master in the school of divine service,
grant, we pray,
that, putting nothing before love of you,
we hasten with a loving heart

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.”

“Born in Norcia, Italy, and educated in Rome, St. Benedict (480 -547) lived a solitary life in the mountainous Subiaco for three years. He later organized twelve monasteries; the monks devoted themselves to prayer and work. In the abbey of Monte Cassino, which he founded, he wrote his Rule, which wonderfully combines the Roman genius with the monastic wisdom of the Christian East. Pope Paul VI proclaimed him Patron of Europe because of his influence on the formation of Christendom.” (Daily Roman Missal, MTF.)

Kateri (1656 -1680) was born near modern-day Auriesville, New York, and orphaned by an epidemic of smallpox, which left her with impaired eyesight and a disfigured face. When she was baptized at twenty, she incurred hostility from her tribe, but she remained faithful and moved to the new Christian colony of Indians in Canada, where she dedicated the rest of her life to prayer, penitential practices, and the care of the sick and aged. She was devoted to the Eucharist and to Christ Crucified; she is called the ‘Lily of the Mohawks.’” (Daily Roman Missal, MTF.)

"Today we are reminded that the Church is missionary by nature. From the very beginning, the Lord sent his apostles to preach the Gospel, drive out demons, and take care of the weak and the sick.

This is an enormous task which sometimes may even be met with rejection and opposition. But this should not be a reason for discouragement, but rather a stimulus to do our very best, while trusting only in the power of God’s grace and of His Word. The weakness of the Cross is much more powerful than all the resources of this world.

Let us keep this in mind as we are about to start the Eucharistic Celebration and offer it in a special manner for all those involved in apostolic works." (Euchalette, July 15, 2012, p. 1.)

July 16, 2012 - Monday, 15th Week in Ordinary Time:

July 16 - Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Optional Memorial):

Collect:
“May the venerable intercession of the glorious Virgin Mary
come to our aid, we pray, O Lord,
so that, fortified by her protection,
we may reach the mountain which is Christ.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.”

“This feast commemorates the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to St. Simon Stock, the superior general of the Carmelite Order, in 1251. She promised a special blessing for those who wear her scapular. The Church heartily recommends this devotion, and countless Christians have taken advantage of Our Lady’s protection.” (Daily Roman Missal, MTF.)
