Today, we also observe the 46th World Communications Sunday. Let us pray for all persons involved in Media and Social Communications that they may use their profession for the good and upliftment of humanity.

Excerpts from today’s Euchalette, May 20, 2012, Solemnity of the Ascension, p. 4:

“The Ascension ushered in the time of the Church - the time of the call to conversion addressed to all peoples through the cracking voice of men who were themselves frail and sinful. By human standards, their preaching would have been a short-lived effort, doomed to fail …And yet, after almost two thousand years and millions of setbacks, the preaching goes on, as daring as ever.”

“The reason …? Christ has been keeping the promise he made to his apostles: “I am with you always, until the end of the world” (Mt 28:20) …”

“It is thanks to the unfailing presence of the Risen Christ that his Word displays a freshness which makes it contemporary with all generations, and possesses a richness which makes it relevant to all cultures and circumstances.”

“The heart of the Word proclaimed by the Church is the GOSPEL, the GOOD NEWS that God has reconciled all human beings to Himself in Jesus Christ …”

“The ‘Good News’ is not simply about Christ’s glorification. It is also about its saving effects on all men and women of all times and places… the wonder of Jesus’ resurrection and mankind’s redemption is announced not as a news item of a distant past, but as a saving reality rooted in history and spanning into eterity. Such a blessing can be experienced personally by all through a response of faith to the proclamation of the ‘Good News’.”

“And, having experienced it in our lives, we are also expected to proclaim it to others and to witness to the Good News of the Gospel through a life characterized by serenity, generosity, peace, and all other qualities that make the environment in which we live a little heaven …” (p.4.)

May 21, 2012 - Monday, 7th Week of Easter:

Collect:
“May the power of the Holy Spirit
come to us, we pray, O Lord,
that we may keep your will faithfully in mind
and express it in a devout way of life.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever and ever.”

May 21 - Saint Christopher Magallanes, Priest, and Companions, Martyrs (Optional Memorial):

Collect:
Almighty and eternal God,
who made the Priest Saint Christopher Magallanes and his companions
faithful to Christ the King even to the point of martyrdom,
grant us, through their intercession,
that, persevering in confession of the true faith,
we may always hold fast to the commandments of your love.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever."

“St. Christopher (1869-1927) was joined in martyrdom by twenty-one diocesan priests and three of the lay faithful, all members of the Cristeros movement against the anti-Catholic Mexican government during the 1920s. Having erected a seminary at Totatiche, he spread the Gospel and ministered to the people secretly. When imprisoned, he was heard to shout from his cell: 'I am innocent and I die innocent. I forgive with all my heart those responsible for my death, and I ask God that the shedding of my blood serve the peace of our divided Mexico.” (MWTF.)

“Grant, we pray, almighty and merciful God,
that the Holy Spirit, coming near

May 22 - Saint Rita of Cascia, Religious:

Collect:
“Bestow on us, we pray, O Lord,
the wisdom and strength of the Cross,
with which you were pleased to endow Saint Rita,
so that, suffering in every tribulation with Christ,
we may participate ever more deeply in his Paschal Mystery.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.”

“Born in the town of Roccaporena in the province of Umbria, Italy, St. Rita (1381-1457) was married and raised two sons. After the murder of her husband, she urged forgiveness rather than the customary vendetta. She was denied entrance to the Augustinian convent because of the threat of violent revenge by her husband’s relatives. Through her intercession a promise of forgiveness and peace was secured, and she began forty years of austerities, contemplation, and servicde to the sick and poor. Toward the end of her life, she bore a wound as from a thorn after having heard a sermon about the Crown of Thorns.” (Daily Roman Missal, MWTF.)

St. Rita was later admitted by the Augustinian Order. She is the patron against abuse cases, loneliness, of lost and impossible causes, marital problems …
