I am currently considering being confirmed under the name of our Blessed Mother in Heaven (and I am a male).
So I was wondering if there have been any saints in history who have done the same.

Are there any Saints that have taken on the name of Saints/Christian name of the opposite gender of their own choosing (so no names that are given from birth or for cultural reasons)?

(I have a hunch that St. Louis de Montfort took on Marie but I’m not sure???)

The first one that comes to mind is

St Maximilian Mary Kolbe. In Polish, it’s spelled “Maria.”

-]I don’t know if Maria was technically his Confirmation name, but there’s no doubt it was his middle name./-]

Correction:

A little research reveals that he was born Raymund. He took Maximilian as his religious name, and later added Maria.

I realize you asked a very specific question, wanting to know only the saints’ Confirmation names. Sorry if this isn’t helpful.

When I am confirmed I am choosing “Joseph Mary” as my Confirmation name. I have a deep devotion to The Holy Family. Being the man of my family and home as well as having a sincere and unconditional love for the Blessed Mother.

I kept thinking of different saints and none seemed to fit me. This one, however, does.

There are many names for girls which are simply feminine forms of a male saint’s name. e.g. Patricia, Josephine (this was used long before there was a St. Josephine), Roberta, etc. I can only think of one woman’s name that has a masculine version and that is Maria which becomes Mario. I’ve known several religious sisters with an unmodified name such as Sr. Edward, or Sr. Mary Joseph. The EWTN friars seem to generally have Mary in their religious name. Go for it!
