Saints 'hearing' prayers?

I think my wife ‘broke’ veneration / intercession of saints!

Seriously - if we don’t pray aloud, can saints hear our prayers and petitions?

They hear in spirit as God wills. They are not bound to physical constraints as we are.

Think about it a bit. They are souls, not bodies. Do souls have ears to pick up sound waves.

If one does not accept the concept of prayers and petitions to saints, of course, none of this makes any sense.

I have found great help and comfort by prayers to saints but I don’t try to explain or understand this in physical terms.

Do you think God is so incapable as to be unable to allow them to? 🤷
 
Yes, Saints can “hear” our prayers as long as God allows it, even if we pray them silently. We can pray asking for their intercession loudly and silently.
 
If you’re asking whether the dead can hear us if we speak to them, the answer is yes. I recently leaned over the hospital bed of my sister who had pased away a short time earlier. I asked her a question about who met her as she “passed over.” I received my answer that night. There was no doubt in my mind that it was my answer from her.

The Saints are alive, even as spirits. We don’t need to pray aloud. The Communion of Saints means saints, and those on their way to sainthood, can hear our prayers. Pope John Paul II is one miracle away from sainthood.

From the catechism I learned God (Trinity) is all knowing, seeing, hearing, present. GOD is Omni (ever or always). I could never wrap my mind around all the variables of how saints and the Virgin Mary received our prayers, heard our prayers or could hear all the petitions from thousands at the same time. I always have more questions then answers so even though I may be losing out by not directing my petitions to saints I just go to God. “Not one sparrow falls to the ground apart from the Father.” A question I have right now is: Since God is present with you and me at this very moment then why do my prayers have to go through channels?

To answer your question: If God gave His capabilities to saints then they wouldn’t need to hear prayers aloud. God can hear our inward grownings.
 
They hear only what God allows them to hear. Spirits, i.e. saints, angels, or demons cannot
read our minds, only what God allows them to hear. Being able to know what’s deep in our heart belongs to God and he shares that with whomever he wants.

Hear comes another question. So if everything is filtered through God then why petion saints?

Yes, since they are in the presence of God, He enables them to hear our prayers according to His will.
 
Rev5:13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, [be] unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

Why do you ask people on Earth to pray for you? Why did God listen to Abraham and say that He would spare Sodom if ten good men could be found in it, instead of destroying it right away as planned?
 
You don’t have to pray to saints if you don’t want to. All it means when a person is declared a saint by the Church is that the person, by reason of a life of virtue or because of heroic acts of martyrdom, is known to be in heaven, is recognized as such by the Church, and prayers to them may be said publicly by the faithful. There are probably lots of people in heaven who will never be declared to be saints, but they are saints nonetheless. They just haven’t gone through an investigative process by the Church.

Still, if an inspiring example is held up before someone who is going through something in their lives, I don’t know why a person wouldn’t want to engage their support, their prayers, and their special interest.

You might want to pick up a book or two on the lives of the Saints. Some of these books are a pretty good read, and definitely more uplifting than whatever latest piece of trash has rolled off the pulp fiction presses. Get to know a few of them by their writings, then make your decision if you’d like their help and support!

1tim1:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for all men;…
3 For this [is] good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

Rom15:30 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in [your] prayers to God for me;

I understand and do ask for prayers and pray throughout the day for others. It is a great privilege. Are you saying that we continue this privilege when we are in heaven? Does Abraham still have God’s ear in regards to earthly matters?

Mom may have influence. So are you saying that saints can influence God? And back to my first post. How do the saints hear all the prayers coming at them at the same time?

Because God wants us to have friends to turn to. How can I possibly explain the joy of knowing that St. Anthoney is my friend and helps me find my car keys. That St. Therese the little flower cares about me and helps me deal with my autistic sister.

Especially our Blessed Mother. I can lay my head on her lap and know that she cares.

I agree with your verses and they are beautiful examples as to why we pray for others. The Eph 3:14 – 21 is the most beautiful of reasons why we should pray for others. Also the Trinity is invoked. It is one of the best displays of the Trinity. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
The whole family of God is kneeling before God our Father of us all in heaven and earth. We can come to Him in Confidence, knowing our prayers are heard, whether aloud or in silence (verse20). So the saints in heaven are praying with us and for us but it is the Trinity we invoke to hear and answer those prayers.
It is in the smallest and most critical matters that I go before the throne of God knowing my petitions and those who pray for me are heard.
I don’t need to ask a particular saint because they are around the throne in worship and hear my prayer so then they to naturally pray.
I will try and meditate on those Ephesians verses all week. Thank you again.

They are not part of time and space. You can not limit God’s ability to handle this insignificant problem.
