Saints to exemplify virtues

Hi,

I work as a school counsellor for a Catholic School Division here in Canada. We are working to make our actions as Catholic educators more distinctive and rooted in our faith. I’m taken by one of the principles of the Institute for the Psychological Sciences, Washington State, which speaks of an approach that:

Seeks to cultivate virtue as an antidote to disorder and self-absorption

Here’s my plan: I’d like to create prayer cards for the children I work with. On one side of the card would be a picture, on the other a brief story and prayer. Each card would represent a saint who reflects one of the Seven Cardinal Virtues:

• Faith
• Hope
• Love/ Charity
• Prudence
• Temperance
• Fortitude
• Justice

I would then give a child I’m working with a card of the saint that embodies the virtue that they seem to need the most. Any suggestions as to saints who embody each virtue particularly strongly, especially those who might appeal to children, will be gratefully received (e.g. St Francis de Sales embodies Charity very strongly)

For the first four, I would recommend the virgin martyrs Faith, Hope, and Charity (Pistis, Elpis, and Agape) and their mother Sophia (Wisdom). They were martyred at Rome in the 2 or 3 century.
