Saints who favour you?

My mom always prayed to St Andre Bessette for help with household tasks. In her 90s it was an effort for her to raise her arms to put curling rollers in her hair.

Telling us about it, she would say “Come on now Brother Andre, help me with these rollers,” and “before long, it was all done!”

Greetings! My two go-to saints for everything are St Thérèse of Lisieux and Pope Saint Paul VI. (A family member received a miracle healing she attributes to the intercession of our sainted Holy Father). After long experience, I rely on these two for intercession for any need, however small.

As you may recall this pope was baptized on the day the Little Flower died. She said when she died she would appear at the baptismal fonts of little babies. The pope felt a special affection for her and kept a relic of her on his desk.

To me, these two kind souls are connected, and I truly believe they will be overjoyed to assist us and pray for us.

I recall a wise priest saying, “Sometimes you choose your saints and sometimes they choose you.” For me, it was the latter.

I think what makes a saint “the right saint” is having an affinity for them in some way, be it their charism or personality, faults and struggles, or even a quirky attribute.

Romano Guardini writes about how a relationship to these “friends of the soul” may become deeply personal and lead one closer to Our Lord in his excellent book, “The Art of Praying.”

(Sorry for all the edits. First day on the forum and not quite on the ball).

I can really relate with St. Therese, St. Mary Magdalene, and Pope John Paul II.

St Anthony, St Joseph, Mary and on occasion, St Jude. I don’t know whether St Joseph helps me more than Mary or vice versa - well, maybe it is Mary, I certainly say many Hail Marys. A priest told me to ask St Joseph for help when I went to confession one time and he did help me.

Of course I think Christ is involved in all of these things too. I sometimes ask my guardian angel to help me, and I ask him to let any other unemployed angels he sees fit to associate me with to help as well.

I’ve also asked St Padre Pio for help on occasion too. St Anthony seems to be the quickest to respond, often within seconds. 🙂

Pope JP2 I picked as my patron saint but I don’t feel like he’s ever answered me … have I chosen wrongly ?

There is no wrong choice. If you like him than he should be your patron.

I suppose it depends on what you mean by “answered you.” God answers prayers, not saints. Maybe God did answer and the answer was no.

I know there are saints I favor, but I don’t know if they (or any) necessarily favor me

Oh yes but I mean why didn’t he use JP or equally why did he use st Anthony. Mystery

  1. The Theotokos, first of all. Our Lady always delivers.
  2. St. Herman of Alaska. An Orthodox saint. However, I was going through some major things at the time. I was in Alaska. I was at his Akathist. I venerated his relics. The priest blessed me with oil from his lampada. At the moment the oil touched my head, it was like I felt a little ‘pop’ and my senses cleared and the issues that had been plaguing me immediately went away.
  3. St. Therese of Lisieux. I randomly came across a novena. I decided to pray it. The last day of the novena I get a card with roses on it and a rosary with my name on the pouch from the Society of the Little Flower (an organization that had never sent me anything before). It was a very specific confirmation of what I had prayed about.
  4. Padre Pio. I came across a prayer book with a third class relic attached at exactly the time I needed it.
  5. St. Joseph. After the St. Therese novena, I thought, why not a novena to St. Joseph? Prayed about selling our house. The second day I get a mailer about selling our house. Ignored it. A few months later I tried again. Immediately got something else in the mail regarding selling our house.

St.Anthony has been a favorite of mine since childhood. He n ver let’s me down 😌
I do however a have a list of saints that I collectively pray to daily for their intercession .
Mama Mary is number one🙏

Pray for us! I love Bl. Castello. She’s one of my favourite saints because I have a genetic disability and I ask her for her intercession every time I’m struggling with my physical health.

St. Anthony is amazing!!! He has helped me find many lost things!!! 🙂
