Saints with personalities

Are there any Saints wo were possibly quiet on their time on Earth. that may have lived day by day with little use of the voice but always acted in good and the Grace of God. (such as helping others)?

Which Saints were the noises, that would allow anyone and everyone know just how much God is great and loving and possibly shouts it to the world?

Could there be any saint to be placed inbetween these two characteristics or further outside them?

Im trying to create a video detailing a little of both characteristics within those whom have become saints, that way we could show people there is a huge spectrum of saints and therefore our own actions do not always have to be just one way but may vary in a way that suits them best.
 
Well, for the more “colourful” saints, you might want to look at St. Gabriel Francis Possenti, who disarmed and frightened off a gang of marauders through his display of excellent marksmanship, or St. Louis de Montfort, who single-handedly took on a tavern full of loud, boistrous drunks who were disturbing the Mass he was celebrating nearby.

For the “quiet” Saint, I would suggest St. Therese of Lisieux. For the noisy one–I think St. Paul is a great example. And St. Peter seemed to be a rather boisterous character.
 
Look up St. Camillus one time. A hospital he was working at had been cheated by a merchant, they bought I think 100 sacks of flour and he delivered 49 insisting it was 100.

Camillus started snatching them off and tossing them into storage counting them allowed and proceded to throttle the man when he hit 49 with none left.

Then look at what St. Thomas More had to say over the formation of the Anglican Church and Lutherans in general.
 
I gather that St Jerome was a real pain. He lived much of his life as a hermit, and everyone thought that a good idea. 😉

Yep, St. Jerome WAS a ‘pain-in-the-you-know-where’! Some of his letters had a sarcastic streak in 'em!

For a ‘quiet’ Saint, I think St. Therese would fit the bill on that side of the equation!
 
Juliana’s father, a Roman prefect during reign of Diocletian, despised her because she had become a Christian. Her suitor despised her because she would not marry him. Both treated her brutally. Her calling left her without a family of her own. Her struggle with the devil was one of the favorite stories of the medieval church. She is frequently shown battling with a winged devil (that could make you not fun to be around.) The devil is said to have apeared to her as an angel of light to persuade her that what she had renounced in the world was in fact good. She was burned, boiled in oil, then beheaded, I suppose by her “loved ones”.

Fr. Corapi tells the story all the time - St. Louis was offering a Mass, but the noise from the tavern kept interrupting him. Finally, he went in, and, in Fr. Corapi’s words, “John Wayne’d the place.” Afterward, the drunkards were sitting in the front pew, at Mass, with black eyes and fat lips.

I suppose St Faustina would count as a quiet saint - she seems to have lived a fairly quiet life as a nun, in spite of her apparitions which were disbelieved when she did tell her superiors about them.

It seems to have been only after her death that her writings became widely known - even then they were put on the Index of Forbidden Books for a time (only because the translations were awful) - and only really rediscovered within the last two decades or so.
 
Might I add St. Josemaria to the list?

To this day people fight over him and his work. Even as a Pagan I gotta say, anyone that provokes this many people on all sides is doing something right.
 
I’ve read that Padre Pio was rough on some of his penitents, I mean he yelled at them.
He surely was in pain. Can stigmatists take pain medication? He had the wounds for about 50 years I think.
 
This is great! we have only reached into a small portion of Saints and yet we have a huge amoung to go on…

Im curious, are there any people that could follow the same characteristics today?

I believe i have one which would be Justin Fatica, but are there any more? could there be anyone who keeps to good faith and good works though still quiet in tongue?

to possibly put this in a better way, whom may you know to act towards Sainthood?

was it he or another Saint who had stigmatists and made jokes all day long.?

Someone once asked him if they hurt. He responded, “Well, God didn’t put them there for decorations.”
 
I heard an interview with Gian Carlo Menotti on KUSC some years back. He told of visiting Padre Pio with a female friend. She went to confession while Menotti remained out side. When she came out she told him that Padre Pio slapped her face. He decided not to ask why, and not to go to confession.

Wish I had the rest of that story. :rolleyes:

my goal was to establish an understanding that we all should act as we claim (Catholic) and do so right. also express that there are more than one way to represent God, more than one way to help another.

so what do you think?
 
all of the saints have different outward apperances, but the one thing they all have in common is their faith in God.
