We all know God is a jealous God, so are there any people that feel like me, that intersession from the saints is a step too far.

There has always been unheard of Saints amongst us, and there are no favourites, so what power could they individual possess.

Dear friend :),

Please envision God as best you can, deep in the abyss of your soul where all the light of the Blessed Trinity dwells. Can you imagine our Lord in his wondrous essence? Can you see the hypostatic union between mortality and divinity? It is impossible. None of us can think of God in that absolutely perfect way which is demanded by His perfection. He is totally simple, and simply total. God’s perfection is His simplicity, and His simplicity is perfect! He has no parts, nor time or space. He drives reality before Him, steering its course in loving and subtle ways that we cannot possibly understand.

Why should those who are incorporated into the holy Body of Christ at ‘death’ be called favourites? They are those who followed the ‘instruction manual’ for human life, and ran their lives according to what was good for them. They glorified God, which increased their soul in grace and glory, the glory as it were of our blessed Lord. All power in Heaven, on Earth, and even below the Earth is given by the Almighty Father. He has made Christ the king of the universe, enthroning His beloved Son above every thing. This doesn’t mean, however, that He refuses to use angels or saints to confer His messages, or to hear prayers and relay them.

In His perfection, He calls each and every human being His “favourite”. One soul filled with sanctifying grace is worth more than the entire material universe, because the life of God is in it. Since God has no time, He doesn’t need to divide His time between you and me; He is with you at 1:43 PM and He is with me at 1:43 PM. He’s everywhere, and those who die in His Body are everywhere, alive with Him in eternity. 🙂

Happy Easter Mark,

God is a jealous so fas as pertaining to worshipping “false gods”.

When we pray (which is really asking for their intercessory prayers to God on our behalf) to Saints, we do not place them above our Love and devotion to God. God is always FIRST in or lives.

In the Book of Revelation (I believe 5:8 and elsewhere) the angels and the saints carry our prayers up to God and place them before Him.

In Scripture, we are told that God does not hear the prayers of the unrighteous, therefore, who are they to turn to if God doesn’t hear the unrighteous? Logic would indicate we ask the righteous to carry our prayers to God on our behalf and who more righteous than Mary, Mother of God, and those Saints we know from miracles, who are in heaven with God.

Mary interceded at the Wedding at Cana: it was because of her that Jesus did His first miracle, and He listened to her and honored her.

Paul also tells us in Scripture “to pray for one another” and in the Gospels, we have the example from Jesus that Moses and Elijah are not “dead” – Jesus clearly states that they are alive!! They were standing next to Him when He was transfigured (a glimpse of the Divine!).

It also says that husbands who do not treat their wives well won’t have their prayers heard by God either, so who are they to turn to?

So, praying to the Saints and Mary and is Biblical and we clearly have examples especially in the Book of Revelation.

Helpful ; but as it is written or known, the father already knows what you need.

I`m not suggesting prayers are useless completely, but puffing up of the self could be a logical consequence of over indulgence at prayer.

The our father prayer could be compromised when additional prayers or ways are relied upon to frequently, for the prayer does state that our Lord is more than willing to allow or test for want of a better word, to lead us into such a situation where the individuals focus could come under an impairment.

The holy spiritus is also a wind we cannot really understand with regards to temptation, and other than they obvious of keeping our thoughts and way`s on the words of our master not our guide, which would be to pray to our " Father " with respect and reverance through jesu, such promoting of scriptural facts could hinder the progress of spiritual correctness.

Intention i feel is priority off will and not the other way around.Division is our lords will so there is no surprise in those that defend alternative options but caution is necessary.

Happy easter…

Well said CEM5. 🙂

We should always read and attempt to understand quotes from the bible in their context and with the mind of the Church.

The Apostolic Churches have always believed in the power of the saints to intercede for us and to pray with us. It is part of the Communion of Saints. For this reason, since the early days of the Church, we have always celebrated the liturgy over the bones of the saints. It began during the first century by celebrating the liturgy over the tombs of the martyrs and was later expanded to relics of other saints.

If you go to any church, Catholic or Orthodox, you will bind a relic either inside the altar itself or on the altar. Why? Because they saints pray for us and with us.

Pay close attention to the Eucharistic prayer, as the priest prays for the Holy Spirit to descend so that the bread and wine will become the body and blood of Christ, he prays through the intercession of the saints.

When you are baptized and in some places when you are confirmed, or in many religious communities, when you enter the novitiate, you receive the name of a saint to be your constant role model, patron, and companion who prays for you and with you.

In essence, if you take out the intercessions of the saints, you’re reforming the entire Catholic and Orthodox tradition, which is apostolic.
There has always been unheard of Saints amongst us, and there are no favorites, so what power could they individual possess.
There is a difference between the saints who walk among us and the saints in heaven. Obviously, both can intercede for us, because we on earth intercede for each other.

As to favorites . . . the Christian tradition does teach us that there are persons whom God has raised within the Church for very specific reasons.

In Mystical Theology we also teach that there are people to whom are granted special graces and gifts that are not granted to most people, no matter how holy.

Mystical Theology also teaches us that there is a hierarchy among the saints. However, this does not bother the saints. That’s what makes them saints. They are not bothered with the honors and gifts that the other receives. Each is grateful for the graces that he or she has received.

A few examples . . . the Church recognizes certain saints as very unique or outstanding among the saints.

St. Francis of Assisi has been called several titles by the Church: The Seraphic Father, the Mirror of Perfection, the Alter Christus, the Perfect Christian, and the last one by Pope Benedict, the one saint who embodied the first beatitude.

St. Thomas Aquinas is the Angelic Doctor. He is not the only Doctor, but holds the highest place among them. The second place is held by St. Bonaventure, the Seraphic Doctor. I’m sure that Augustine is not upset by this. He is probably very pleased.

St. Francis, St. Rita and St. Pio had visible stigmatas.

Then you have the incorruptibles, such as St. Bernadette, St. Louise de Marillac, St.Teresa of Avila, and others.

In life there were special gifts given to some and not to others. There are not to many saints who reached the heights of ecstasy and mysticism as Francis of Assisi, Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Paschal Baylon, just to name a few of our greatest mystics.

Then you had saints who were gifted with the grace of outstanding heroism: all of the martyrs and in our own time there were Mother Teresa, Maximilian Kolbe and Edith Stein.

Finally, there are those who reach sanctity through the most ordinary and simple paths, which is a gift in and of itself, such as St. John Vianney, St. Therese, St. John de La Salle, St. Francis de Sales, Bl. John Henry Newman, and soon to be Bl. John Paul II.

Yes, there is a hierarchy of sorts or at best, there are very unique gifts given to some and not to others.

But real sanctity is not about the gifts. It’s about the great love that results from the gifts. These men and women used their gifts, great or small, to love with everything they had. That love raised them to different levels of holiness, but all above the majority of us. That’s why we refer to their lives as lives of heroic virtue and great charity.

God calls us all to be saints and gives us gifts that we need to reach sanctity. Once in a while, he will pick a special person to whom he gives additional gifts for the greater good of the whole Church. These are the saints that stand out for very specific reasons, such as some of the ones that I named above.

Have a Blessed Easter filled with the Lord’s Mercy

Yes, imagine your child prefered another dad to you, one whom you knew didn’t exist.
It would make you sad that he prefered an imaginary dad to you.

He just wants our love.

Well the saints would be the first to tell you that they did not posses any power of their own and that all things come from God; and on that note I would then tell you that the practice of asking for a saints interessory PRAYER is not because we believe they have individual powers but because we believe their prayers are powerful on account of their great love and faithfulness to God.

All good things received are acknowledged as coming from God. All powers are acknowledged as coming from God. The prayers to God given by the saints who are alive in Christ are acknowledged as being beneficial additions to our prayers. God is big on communion of prayer. He loves it when the faithful pray together so much that He promised that where two or three are gathered in His name He will be in the midst of us.

What Father would be angry at seeing his children unite with each other out of love and support to implore his help?

Dang! I love this analogy. Is it copyrighted? 😃
