I heard that Catholics were forbidden to salsa dance from the sexuality involved. Is this true?

LoL! nope 🙂 Just another rumor, like “Catholics aren’t allowed to read the Bible” and “Catholics pray to statues”…

I had never heard that one before… That one is new… Where’d you hear it?

God bless and dance on!

I don’t see anything wrong thing salsa dancing. I agree with the above statement.

I read somewhere that Pope St. Pius X attended a private salsa lesson.:ehh::yup: And the ironic part is that he is known as the pope that worked hard on installing greater solemnity, and sacred music to the Mass.

Again I don’t see anything wrong with it. If you saw a priest playing volleyball, or the Holy Father pitching a throw at a game of baseball would that be considered bad just because it isn’t in their field? No.

Indeed. I agree with ya:thumbsup:

Wouldn’t you just love to find out where this kind of “stuff” comes from and where it all gets started??? Wow… sounds like a good thread… Crazy Catholic Rumors!

So is any type of dancing forbidden?
There is no list of things Catholics can and cannot do, dancing included.

What the Church *does *is teach us the moral principles under which we should operate, such as the Ten Commandments. The Church gives us a moral framework. We also learn the role of virtue and conscience formation in moral decision making. We then *apply *the moral principles of the Church in deciding whether or not a particular thing we are contemplating doing conforms to the moral law and is virtuous.

So, one would look at the type of dance one is thinking of doing and whether or not it would be pleasing to God or not, whether or not it would be modest or immodest, violate the ninth commandment or not, whether it would give scandal or not, whether it would be virtuous or not. Then, we decide to do or not do that thing.

Here’s a link to the Catehcism, reading the entire section on morality, virtue and conscience formation would be helpful here:

I remember that many years ago someone got arrested in Cincinnati for doing the “alligator” in a nightclub. Probably got charged with lascivious carriage.
