This question is to the non-Catholics specifically the OSAS believers. I was on another forum and I was just reading some of the responses about OSAS where there were thoughts that salvation could and couldnt be lost. There were a lot of things brought up which pointed to it being a false belief, so I wont bring those up but one thing that didnt pop up which which seems obvious to me is if it is true that Jesus died for our sins and all one has to do is accept the gift of salvation, which that individual could never lose, why were we given the 10 commandments for which to live by?

I am more than positive there is an answer to this, I just wanted to know what that answer is.

God Bless

I kinda like the way U2 put it

And though your soul
It can’t be bought
Your mind can wander

I think you cannot re-earn salvation because its always there, but you can certainly convince yourself out of it. Ask a average atheist. 🙂

I dont like to use the term but thats what the backslidder is all about. Biblically the prodical son is a better example. He always had his fathers love, he just had to go back and find it.

So its really not once saved always saved and you dont have to do anything,

You do have to hold onto it. You hold onto it by honouring God by doing what you can for Him (works ie helping others) and growing in knowledge of Him.

Or else “your mind can wander” 🙂

If you look at the broad overview of the NT letters, Paul is constantly warning the believers to guard against sin. Why is this? Because sin can seperate you from God, even if you believe. If he preached “once saved, always saved” this warning would be superfluous.

exactly swnunley

wandering away from God is sin, especially because He never wanders away from us (prodical son).

God loves us unconditionally. It is we how put conditions on God’s love.

👍 Thanks for the backup, Kitty!

God’s Word says: 1 Jn 2:3, 4; 3:22, 24; 5:3.

God tells us that the believer can know assuredly that he has come to know the Lord, if he keeps the Lord’s commandments.
