Quoting to me from the KofC website was not necessary.

Please take the time and patience to read my previous comments. I NEVER said they are not a Catholic organization - I simply said, why would they want to support another religious organization other than their own? The Salvation Army is a religious organization!

The KofC does many wonderful things, as your quote points out. There is no need to go outside all the wonderful CATHOLIC organizations they support to seek out other religions to give their time to.

then I may have misunderstood your response, it looked to me that you were seperating the KofC from the Catholic Church. As for participating with other orgs. we do not in our area. thanks

The Salvation Army has request help from the Knights of Columbus at least in the State of Alabama.

They want us to help stand outside of stores and ring bells.

Point blank question, “Are they anti-catholic”
Yes. They do a lot of good works but in doing so do a lot of bad things as well. I won’t support them.

It could be sinister. What if they take that money and publish tracts that bash the Church? That would be a clever way to get us to pay for it in more ways than one.

If it were up to me to decide I would ask they publicy retract any false statements about the Church before giving them a dime. And stop the silly WOB thing already.

If they’re on speaking terms with, and asking help from, a Catholic organisation - well, that doesn’t sound anti-Catholic 🙂

When asked, “Who is my neighbour ?”, Jesus did not answer, “Your fellow-Jew” - he said this instead

IMHO, we should co-operate with other Christians as much they will let us. 😉 🙂 (Especially those who are persecuted or in any other need)

I used to be a “Salvationist”, but I reverted to Catholic - by God’s call, miracle, and mercy. They are real Protestant people, they preach that the “Sacraments” especially the Holy Eucharist is not essential for Salvation. Being one with them means denying Jesus and renouncing the Holy Sacrament which is a mortal sin. Helping them for the good cause is good, but supporting and giving them justification is not right if one profess he/she is Catholic. I know because I worked with them and I even tried to convert my family to be a “Salvationist”. Their mission which started this 2011 is to bring people to Christ, to be one with them even Catholics. They challenged the Vatican according to one of the “officers” (their pastor) about “holiness”, they believe Catholics are idolaters. Let us pray for them, that no one would be deceived by their mission. Yes, they will bring people to Christ, but will teach people that the “Sacraments” which the Catholics practice are not necessary for salvation.

We are a large family and can’t afford to donate $$ but we can give our time so at Christmas my children and I ring bells for the Salvation Army. Last year our kettles raised over $600. The money goes to help poor people in our town. I feel good about it and don’t give a hoot what they believe. Everyone except the Catholic Church is in error, but at least they heed the words of Jesus to provide clothing, food, shelter, and they do so in His name. That’s good enough for me to help them in their efforts.

If a Catholic organization had a way for our family to raise money by donating our time, I would do that instead… but they don’t so bell ringing it is.

I respect a Catholic’s position that they would not donate to the Salvation Army - I’m curious though, if your house burned down, or your area was declared a national disaster, would you accept their help?

I agree that we all need to come together to glorify God ~ Jesus wants us to help everybody AND to love our neighbor and pray for our enemies ~ but the Salvation Army apparently doesn’t help everybody…especially if you’re gay. This is the first time I’ve seen an article about it : nytimes.com/2011/12/24/us/beliefs-salvation-army-hears-dissent-over-gay-views.html?_r=1&src=tp&smid=fb-share

It really ticks me off and saddens my heart. These situations are heartbreaking.
According to the article, the salvation army was willing to provide shelter to the man and his lover - separately if they had space. To say they don’t help you if you are gay is a joke. This is one person’s account - from 20 years ago. I would hardly call that an alarming pattern of refusing to help gays.

It sounds like the author’s real issue is that because the Salvation Army believes homosexual relationships are contrary to Biblical teachings, they shouldn’t be supported. I would guess he feels the same about the Catholic Church, and any other religious group who believe homosexual relationships are not God honoring.

The Salvation Army’s teaching:

“The Salvation Army does not consider same-sex orientation blameworthy in itself. Homosexual conduct, like heterosexual conduct, requires individual responsibility and must be guided by the light of scriptural teaching. Scripture forbids sexual intimacy between members of the same sex. The Salvation Army believes, therefore, that Christians whose sexual orientation is primarily or exclusively same-sex are called upon to embrace celibacy as a way of life.”
