I know that God was first introduced to the Jewish people and they are still the chosen people. But Christians are saved by believe in Christ.what is meant by salvation is from the Jews?Is it because Jesus was Jewish and therefore saved by Jews?
“Salvation is from the Jews” means just that. Salvation comes to us from a particular people called “Jews,” a people the Scriptures reveal to be of the tribe of Judah, one of the 12 tribes/children of Israel whose progenitor is Abraham.
God made a promise to Abraham [then called Abram] that, “…in thee shall all nations of the earth be blessed” (Gen. 12:3) – a promise of grace, or spiritual salvation. This same promise is repeated in Genesis 22:18: “And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed” – the “seed” referring to the “one seed” Christ, as explained in Galatians 3:8, 16.
The promise was re-promised to Abraham’s son, Isaac (Gen. 26:4), then to Isaac’s son, Jacob whom God renamed Israel. Israel had 12 sons and among them was Judah, the father of all Jews. To him was the promise of grace/spiritual salvation passed on: “The sceptre (kingly office culminating in Christ, and involves grace to all) shall not depart from Judah… until Shiloh (the Messiah, Christ) come…” (Gen. 49:10).
Indeed “Salvation,” as Christ said, “is of the Jews.” The promise of salvation was handed down to the Jews through their father, Judah. “The gospel of Christ,” Paul wrote,” is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew
first, and also to the Greek” (Rom. 1:16).
Paul does not mince words in letting us know that without God’s promise to Abraham [handed down to his children through Israel], no Gentile has hope of salvation. He says, “Wherefore remember, that ye being in times past Gentiles in the flesh… that at that time ye were without Christ, being
aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and
strangers from the covenants of promise,
having no hope, and without God in the world” (Eph. 2:11-12).
Because of one man [Abraham], by way of God’s promises to him, Gentiles can have the hope to be saved. Abraham, then, is rightly called the father of all the faithful. “Therefore it is of faith so that it might be according to grace; for the promise to be made sure to all the seed, not only to that which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all” (Rom. 4:16).
God’s promises to Abraham are for his children only, “Who are Israelites; to whom belong the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and
the promises” (Rom. 9:4). Gentiles have to be “graffed in among them (the children of promise), and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree” (Rom. 11:17). In other words, Gentiles have to become spiritual Jews [through faith in Christ- Eph. 2:13]] to be part of the “covenants of promise” and so be partakers of the promises in those covenants. This is the reason why Paul also said that God “will give glory, honor and peace to every man who works good, to the Jew
first, and also to the Greek” (Rom. 2:10).
The promise of salvation comes to us from the Jews – from God’s promise of grace to their father Abraham. That is the meaning of Christ’s statement “Salvation is of the Jews.”
