Actually, OSAS doesn’t teach cheap grace at all. It teaches a very powerful grace that is able to keep us in God’s hands.

Then why does the Bible speak of salvation in the present tense?
:amen:

What needs to be mentioned about the past, present, and future aspects of salvation are justification (past), sanctification (present), and glorification (future - at the resurrection). However, I am not sure that you would tell them that they are justified by faith alone (although you ought to…this is what happens at the beginning of the Christian life), since unfortunately, the CC has proclaimed that infants can be born again, and henceforth, justified which is unbiblical. Regardless, it should be broken down this way. All of it is by faith, the Word…and the Holy Spirit. If they are attempting to earn favor with God through a series of good works, then they must be given the gospel that they might abandon this idea and trust in Christ and Him alone for salvation in repentant faith…then they will be justified and the work of salvation will begin. Looking back to an infant Baptism (for justification) is not sufficient.

In Christ,

Craig L.
I dont think anyone is atempting to earn there salvation here. regarding infant baptism scripture and history is aginst you. I have read many of your post. I dont know how someone can remain so ignorant.

are you telling me that we no longer have Free Will. And that we cant freely chose to no longer follow God.

Sure, we have free will.

However, when we’re born again, we’re given a new nature that is dead to sin and no longer serves the flesh, but serves Christ.

If you’re saved, you’re saved. You can’t be born again and then unborn again.

OSAS is entirely Biblical.
  1. Nothing can separate you from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus your Lord.
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)
Neither death nor anything that happens after death, or anything that happens while you’re living can separate you from God’s love. If there were no other verse in the Bible that deals with eternal security, this one covers the base.
  2. When you are saved, you are made perfect forever.
For by one offering He [Jesus] hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. (Hebrews 10:14)
When Jesus died on the cross, He saved you forever. Jesus offered one sacrifice for sin forever. If you ever lost your salvation, in order for you to be saved again, Jesus would have to die again. By one offering He has perfected forever those who were sanctified.
  3. Our Lord always finishes what He begins.
Being confident of this very thing, that He [God] which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6)
Let me tell you what the Holy Spirit of God does for your salvation. First, He convicted you of sin. Second, He converted you. And the Convictor and the Converter is also the Completer. If God fails to finish what He’s begun God has failed and He cannot fail.
  4. You are predestined to be like Jesus.
For whom He [God] did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. (Romans 8:29)
God saw you before this world was put in space. He saw you repent of your sin and ask Jesus to save you. And when God saw that, not only did He foreknow it, but also He predestinated it. If it is settled in eternity how can it be undone in time?
  5. You are in Christ.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
You are in Christ just like Noah was in the ark. The ark was a picture of Jesus and when Noah went into that ark God shut the door. Noah may have fallen down a lot of times in that ark, but he never fell out of it. Your security is not in a place, it is in a Person and His name is Jesus. And if you’re in Jesus, you’re secure and if you’re not in Jesus you’re not secure.
  6. You already have eternal life.
Heareth My word, and believeth on him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. (John 5:24)
Everlasting life is not something you get when you die. Everlasting life is something you get when you receive Jesus. If I have everlasting life, when can it end? Suppose I had it 10 years and it ended. Did I have everlasting life? No, I had a 10-year life. Whatever you have, if you ever lose it, whatever it was it wasn’t everlasting.
  7. The Lord Jesus Christ is ever interceding for you.
I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given Me; for they are Thine. (John 17:9)
Jesus also prayed: “I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil…Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word” (John 17:15, 20). Say your name in that verse because Jesus prayed for you! Has Jesus ever prayed a prayer that wasn’t answered? No, not one (see John 11:42 and Hebrews 7:25).
Please feel free to show me where the Bible tells us that we can lose our salvation.

Sure, we have free will.

However, when we’re born again, we’re given a new nature that is dead to sin and no longer serves the flesh, but serves Christ.

If you’re saved, you’re saved. Agreed! But you will not know if you are saved until you no longer take breath on this earth. You can’t be born again and then unborn again. Your terminology for “born again” is inconsistant with that of the bible. Try to read the bible in context to understand.

OSAS is entirely Biblical. You forget the phrase “in my opinion” after that statement. Unfortunatly your opinion doesn’t matter to God when it comes to salvation.

Please feel free to show me where the Bible tells us that we can lose our salvation. Please feel free to find it yourself. Apparently that is the only way you will ever see it. May God grant you the grace to read and understand the scripture as God intended. You’ve found the water, you came to this site, we can’t force you to drink, you need to decide to do that for yourself.

The grace of God and their own works.
Clearly you have a misunderstanding about Catholic teaching.
What Christian ever said that we’re saved by a profession of faith?
Do you think the apostle Paul is a Christian?

9 because, if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips and so is saved.Rom 10:8-10

Start with CCC 846 “Out Side the Church There Is No Salvation” and explain this with the Sacrements of Initiation.
  1. Baptism is necissary for salvation. Biblical lookups are: “Unless a man is born again of water and spirit…” This is Baptism. And Jesus also said “Those who …and are Baptised will be saved” Baptism was instituted by Christ for the sake of our salvation.
  2. “Those sins you forgive are forgiven those you retain are retain…” How can a priest forgive sins if they don’t hear them. This is Conffession given to us from Christ for the sake of our salvation.
  3. “Unless you eat My Flesh and drink my Blood you will have no life within you…” Consuming the Eucharst is Christ giving Himself to us for the sake of our salvation.
This is a good place to reference answers.

1)Baptism is only the beginning of our walk with Christ. We need to continue to grow in faith. That growth is aided by our prayer life in which we deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ. It is strengthened as well by our relationship with each other.
  1. In confession, we mortify the pride of the flesh and nail it to the cross. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is God’s remedy against self-deception and self-indulgence.
  2. The Eucharist is the source and summit of Christian life.
With out Christ I can do nothing. Through Christ I can do all things. Christ is the vine and we are the branches.

Then why does the Bible speak of salvation in the present tense?
The Bible speaks of salvation in three tenses:

I Have Been Saved (past event)

Rom. 8:24 - for in this hope we were saved (but, again, why “hope” if salvation is a certainty?)

Eph. 2:5,8 - for by grace you have been saved through faith.

2 Tim. 1:9 - He saved us and called us through grace and not by virtue of our own works outside of His grace.

Titus 3:5 - He saved us in virtue of His own mercy, and not by our deeds.

I Am Being Saved (present event)

1 Cor. 1:18 - *for the word of the cross is folly to those perishing, but for to us who are being saved, it is the power of God. *Salvation is not a one-time event. It is a process of perseverance through faith, hope and love.

2 Cor. 2:15 - for we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved. Salvation is a continual process.

Phil. 2:12 - we are working out our salvation through fear and trembling. Salvation is an ongoing process.

1 Peter 1:9 - *you obtain the salvation of your souls as the outcome of your faith. *Working out our salvation in fear and trembling is a lifelong process.

I Will Be Saved (future event)

Matt. 10:22, 24:13; Mark 13:13 - again, Jesus taught that we must endure to the very end to be saved. Salvation is a past, present and future event (not a one-time event at an altar call).

Mark 16:16 – Jesus says whoever believes and is baptized will be saved.

Acts 15:11 - we believe that we shall be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus.

Rom. 5:9-10 - since we are justified by His blood, we shall be saved.

Rom. 13:11 - salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. How can we be only nearer to something we already have?

1 Cor. 3:15 - he will be saved, but only as through fire.

1 Cor. 5:5 - Paul commands the Church to deliver a man to satan, that he will be saved in the day of the Lord.

2 Tim. 2:11-12 - if we endure, we shall also reign with Him. This requires endurance until the end of our lives.

Heb. 9:28 - Jesus will appear a second time to save those who are eagerly waiting for Him.

James 5:15 - the sacrament of the sick will save the sick man and the Lord will raise him up.

Ac 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Then what happened?

What did Paul do when Ananias came to him?

What did the house of Cornelius do after Peter preached to them and they believed?

What did Peter tell the believers to do at Pentecost?

Do your REALLY believe that baptism is not related?🤷
