If same-sex unions are given equal status to marriage in law, the effect will be that any government recognition or support of the people who create and raise the next generation in society will be gone.
I believe society has been pulling its support for marriage for over 40 years now, when society began to view marriage as an adult centered arrangement instead of child centered. It is almost complete in the non-government sphere. The “perks” of being married are created by government. If it is wrong to treat married people and single different, the government can take away the “perks.” Instead of letting government slowly remove its support, same-sex “marriage” will make it instant.
I also believe that homosexuals want “marriage” to give social status to their relationships, but they will be destroying the thing they envy. Of course there are other social forces that are destroying marriage, too.
So I think homosexuals are pushing a ball that has been in motion for a long time and it will probably reach its destination with or without their support. I believe that marriage comes from human nature and the government can’t change what it is. The government trying to redefine marriage reminds me of the Indiana PI Bill.
