Same-sex couples saying ?I do? in Connecticut (CNA)

I am a nurse in the mental health field. The American Board of Psychiatry says that homosexuality is not a mental illness nor a “chosen” lifestyle… I, personally, have known a few homosexuals in my life time. They don’t know why they are homosexual, but say they have always been aware of the fact that they were. Psychiatrists and psychologists don’t have the answer as to why people are that way, but they do think that there are both biological and psychological factors that come into play.

So, let’s say that it became a “proven fact” that homosexuality was not a chosen lifestyle. How, then, would the Church view it? Would the Church say that they would not be sinners as long as they didn’t have a homosexual relationship? I know that sex outside of marriage is a sin. But, if homosexuals aren’t allowed to marry, then how can they have a sexual relationship with their partner without committing a sin? And, if they can’t help being that way, why should they have to live a life of celibacy when heterosexuals don’t? Isn’t that punishment for something that isn’t their fault?
 
I do think (in some people) that homosexual feelings are innate. I dont think its a punishment for anything. We all have different challenges that we may be born with. Some people are born who are more prone to be alcoholics, this does not make it okay for them to be alcoholics; I also dont think its a punishment for anything. Some may view it as an opportunity to serve Christ by overcoming these challenges, and “take up their Crosses”.

The orthodox Catholic view is that we all have to bear crosses in our lives and lifelong celibacy is a cross they have to bear. Its a tough teaching.

It’s the perversion of God’s design for the sexual act that makes homosexuality sinful.
