Hypothetically, if two person of the same sex who have same sex attraction and live together but they do not perform any sexual acts, nor indulge in any sexual thoughts of each other, ie pure love [looking after each other etc]
  1. are they still chaste?
  2. have they violated any Catholic teaching?
If the answer to the above is no, what it they:
  1. hold hands
  2. kiss
  3. etc etc [i hope you know what i mean, where do you start drawing the line?]

My own views: there is nothing wrong with them living as roommates but to avoid scandal I would probably not mention that they had SSA.

Anything beyond that veers into romantic coupling territory for me so holding hands and kissing would be out where I am but if it was in a place where that would be considered normal between same sex friends it would probably be OK.

[i hope you know what i mean, where do you start drawing the line?]
Separate rooms would be a start. If they can manage not to engage in sexual activity, they are to be commended. Guess a daily kiss would be OK.
Still some might say it is better they are not led into temptation by not living in the same house.
Better hand you over to the experts now. 🙂

Just to clarify my question, I know some of you will say it’s unlikely this happens, it is prone to further temptation etc etc.
But just HYPOTHETICALLY if this “couple” is able to absolutely not have any sexual acts/fantasies etc etc. can they be considered chaste?

SSA means problem and not tolerable by nature,God and church.
It can be healed.
Wrong on many levels

I think it depends on what their intention is for living together. And their intention for remaining chaste. If their intentions aren’t to promote SSA it wouldn’t be sinful but it would be dangerous.imo

It’s not “good” but it’s also not the fault of the people who experience them. People can’t control how they feel; they can only control their actions.

Are you asking if living together chaste be a possible vocation for ssa couples…in that word lies the problem…ssa couples. Coupling. Do they consider themselves a ‘couple’? If so what is the meaning of the bond that makes them a couple. Is it more than mutual friendship that defines their bond?

Better hand you over to the experts now
But what would you term an “expert” and how would you recognize them as such?

Gay people have to live somewhere, and they needn’t live alone. The situation you describe has no problems in it whatsoever – you didn’t even say they were attracted to each other. (I’m attracted to guys, but I’m certainly not attracted to most guys.) I would say that kissing and anything beyond it is definitely out, and I don’t see any reason – except money based ones, maybe – that they should sleep in the same room.

Or take the scenario where a heterosexual couple
who live together, but the husband has ED and
they cannot have sexual intimacy b/c of age and
lack of desire, are they a couple or are they just
two ppl who share the same house?(they don’t have
children).

I’d say the experts are the Catholics who have had to communicate with the gay community on a regular basis. And ones who know how to communicate the Church’s position on this. I’m leaning towards concerns rather than green light A OK.

In Western culture, two people past the age of puberty holding hands and kissing is a sign of romantic interest, generally signifying some level of sexual interest.

I understand that in some other cultures, it is fairly normal for two heterosexual young women to do these types of things just as a sign of close friendship and it doesn’t mean they are gay. However, that’s not the norm in US society.

It’s already become that way.
The girls I mentioned from other cultures come to the US to be exchange students or something, they soon discover that their classmates assume they are lesbian if they start going around campus holding hands with a girlfriend.

I suppose there are cases where you have, say, a group of college students who form one of those extended cuddly family groups where everybody is snuggly and kissy and hand-holdy all the time without necessarily engaging in sex with each other, but those tend to fall apart as soon as the people in them form a relationship with someone who doesn’t really want to see “their boyfriend” or “their girlfriend” holding hands or cuddling with others.

In either “Desire of the Everlasting Hills” or “The Third Way” there is an interview with some people who did continue to live chastely with their former partners.

Constantly amazed at the search for lower end boundary “okayness” with sexual/morality related questions.

It’s like someone is searching for a way to “barely love God’s will and design for me”.

A pursuit of holiness is exactly the opposite, focusing instead on this question: How we should search at the higher end of virtue…how can I give even more to God and how can I become one with His will each day.

This “barely obeying” approach is tantamount to: How can I pursue my preferences…offending God only so much that He doesn’t throw me in hell tomorrow.
