These guys (and gals) can be extremely funny.
But that’s not good enough for me to watch someone’s program who is also extremely tasteless.
My viewing time are my votes.
Just like my dollars are votes.
So, when somebody starts getting utterly tasteless, I just stop watching them or buying their “stuff” … newspapers, magazines, books, or, in the case of television or radio, I stop viewing their program. They NEED me to get ratings … so they can sell advertising. If their ratings go down [yeah, yeah, yeah, I know it’s statistical], then they learn that their income suffers … but at the same time, somebody else’s income goes up. Or they bring in some other, smarter, newer talented writer and give them an opportunity.
David Letterman pulled one tasteless stunt too many for me. Pffft! Don’t watch him anymore.
Jay Leno? I gave up on him a LONG time ago … stopped by one time and he was not even able to read his cue cards. Unfunny.
I was listening to the radio yesterday and some guy who thought he was being funny came on … and I just closed it.
One of the other talk show guys said that they can tell when they get “unfunny” or “uninteresting” … they have their statistical measures and they can just see their meters go down.
Mr. O’Brien can take his program to some off-brand satellite channel and compete with Sarah Silverman.
