Can the bells be rung 3 times at the Sanctus in the OF just like as in the EF Mass?
 
From the 2002 General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) approved for the USA, which can be accessed from romanrite.com/girm.html :
“150. A little before the consecration, when appropriate, a server rings a bell as a signal to the faithful. According to local custom, the server also rings the bell as the priest shows the host and then the chalice.”

According to GIRM 150, most parishes ring them at the epiclesis, but you could certainly ring them at the sanctus. So that’s a clear yes.

But if you did that, could you still ring them at the epiclesis?

In the spirit of continuity, I’d say probably yes.

Does anybody know exactly what the latin says, if you translate “slavishly literal”? I’m just curious. It might change the situation a little bit.

The Latin says,
Paulo ante consecrationem, minister, pro opportunitate, campanulae signo fideles monet.
The translation given is just fine. One might “slavishly” translate it, more or less, as:
A little before the consecration, the minister, as appropriate, warns the faithful with the sign of a bell.

Ok. Thanks. Sometimes it brings out a different aspect of the rubric to translate it yourself.

So. Any thoughts? Ring the bells at the sanctus and epiclesis? Yes? No?

“[N]o other person, even if he be a priest, may add, remove, or change anything in the liturgy on his own authority.”
 
At my parish, we ring at the epiclesis and the consecration. The old pastor had done away with bells at the epiclesis, but the new one brought it back.
