It’s a challenge. The Advent Calendar can work in the advent context, even with the chocolates, considering the Advent season is supposed to be one of fasting and penance (and indeed, anticipation of the second coming and judgement).

The concern is about not spoiling the fun for kids who believe in it.

I don’t think there is much that can be done about that. You have the right to raise your kids your way. I knew when school started it was just a matter of time that my son figured it all out. Now in the second grade he has already snapped, though he is not allowed to say anything, lest Santa pass him by.
