For those on CAF who don’t know, Santa Barbara was a daytime soap opera that aired on NBC from 1984 to 1993.

Oh, I see. I never really got into daytime soaps because I was going to school or working.

I just found out a little while ago that the Eden Capwell character used artificial contraception. sigh

It was all the rage when I was in high school in the early 90s. I remember some of my friends would watch it every day and then discuss it in detail 😃 Eden and Cruise were a fantasy couple, very much in love but facing trials. My friends loved that kind of stuff.
I’ve never watched it, just can’t get into soaps.

Actually, the show was in decline during that period. Its last year on NBC was 1993.

I hope this doesn’t sound too prurient, but a big reason I’ve become interested in the show is because I like the way a certain outfit looked on Marcy Walker, the actress who played Eden. It also hasn’t hurt that Joseph Bottoms was also on the show.

I guess I should say that the Eden Capwell character was at least willing to use artificial contraception. There’s a stretch of Santa Barbara when Eden was reluctantly married to an unscrupulous businessman named Kirk Cranston. Kirk replaced Eden’s birth-control pills with placebos, then got her pregnant with a child who later died in an accident before being born.

If she had used natural contraception methods, her husband wouldn’t have been able to get her pregnant.

Well, one has to keep in mind that the Eden Capwell character was not a Catholic. One also has to keep in mind that Kirk Cranston was basically an evil character. If I’m not mistaken, Eden have to had sexual intercourse with Kirk on Kirk’s terms.

Never heard of it… but have been sucked into watching Bold & beautiful.

She should have sued him for contraceptive fraud.

Eric Close from ‘Santa Barbara’ is now Teddy on ‘Nashville’ (the TV show.) And Sydney Penny played St. Bernadette in a movie of the same name.

Loved Santa Barbara! I switched to it after General Hospital became boring (after the peak of the Luke and Laura era). I loved Lane Davies as Mason. ❤️

I just read that the Capwells saved Kirk’s life by allowing him to receive the heart of the person who had previously died. The Capwells are idiots! What made them think that the life of that scum was so precious that it needed to be saved? Since his life was saved, he could have gotten Eden pregnant again.
