Did you know that “Santa Claus” is really a Catholic Bishop? That’s why he wears red. He is also a Fourth Century, Catholic Saint - Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra (part of modern-day Turkey)

Santa is a Catholic thing…based on a Catholic Saint!

Yes! There is one story that I know of…At one point during his life there was a single father with 3 daughters who lived in poverty apparently they were unable to get married because the father couldn’t afford to pay for their dowry and he was getting ready to sell his daughters into prostitution…St Nicholas paid for each of his daughters dowry so they could be married.
 
A good one for kids … have you seen “Nicholas, the boy that became Santa”? it’s a cartoon. Very well done.🍿

I love evangelizing my children. They are converts. Last night at Midnight Mass, I pulled out a plastic holy card that I had just purchased of Saint Nicholas.

(Saint Ni - kolas = Santa C’laus.)

I whispered into my little girl’s ear, “Did you know that Santa Claus is Catholic? He was a priest and a saint.” She said she already knew that :rolleyes: but it still was a really teachable moment, and very sweet memory. :heaven:

And how can Santa do what he does?

Because he is a saint! It is not magic or Father Winter, it is because God allows him to do so…
 
Everything that has to do with Christmas, has to do with the Catholic faith. In fact every holiday has to do with the Catholic faith.

That’s a matter of opinion. You have to have faith in Christ alone to be saved. Your own Catechism refutes that and so do some of the figures in the Catholic church.

**Funny, but I heard that faith “alone” which was the word inserted by Luther when he changed the Word of God to fit his own mindset at the time…hmmm…:hmmm:

Why would you make such a cynical comment?! He started out so well. Could you not find anything positive to reinforce? Such a blast of negativity into a cheerful thread…and he has such a hard time starting threads of that kind! :o

No, SIA, the catechism builds upon the earlier writings of the Church, one of which is that was are saved by grace, through faith, that we can do the works that God has ordained for us from the beginning of the world. The catechism affirms that we are saved by grace. It is the blood of Christ, shed upon the cross, that purchases salvation for us. However, Christ is not “alone”. He founded a church, and all who are baptized become members of HIs Body.

Please show me the verse where Jesus himself says that only faith in Jesus will save you.
 
If it were up to me, i’d rid Christmas of all this Santa Claus thing because it isn’t about Saint Nicolas but about materialism.
 
Yes i agree, and im sick of the media portraying Chritmas as santa claus and people causing huge traffic due to shopping for things that have nothing to do with Christmas spirituality. If it were up to me, i’d simply annihilate this santa claus thing and money should be spent on food and clothes only to the needy and maybe small religious gifts to each others, but that’s me.
 
To a degree this is true…

The love of Christ & the generosity Saint Nicholas exhibited to his fellow man because of his love isn’t always duly noted, but I believe it’s there in the crowds somewhere. 🙂
