I usually do not disclose whom I voted for; however, in this case, it is important that you know I did NOT vote for President Obama. Once the outcome is complete; however, I trust in the Lord and prayer, and refrain from remarking negatively against our county’s leader; especially in ways that are disrespectful of the Office of the President. I find this to be unpatriotic.
Hear, hear, Veronica (or is it “here, here”? I’m never sure about that).
At any rate, I echo your sentiments wholeheartedly. We who are in opposition to the government of the day used to be called the “loyal opposition”. I hope that ideal still holds true today. One can disagree with the president–even passionately, even completely–while retaining the appropriate level of patriotic respect for him and for his office.
With respect to Sarah Palin: thank you, Governor, for stating the obvious; your ability to do as much is the most anyone can say in praise of you, however, at least when it comes to your political prowess.
Ambition to high office must be coupled with a capability to perform that office. I do not care how conservative she claims to be or how devout an Evangelical Protestant she is; Mrs. Palin has consistently demonstrated a lack of the intellectual rigour necessary for one aspiring to the office of president. She may pretend to be some renowned conservative guru all she likes, but she’s no William F. Buckley, Jr., she’s no George Will, she’s no Newt Gingrich, &c.
Mrs. Palin inherits, not the mantle of Ronald Reagan, but of Dan Quayle and George W. Bush. That’s the line I place her in, with one less qualified than the one before:
Dan Quayle > George W. Bush > Sarah Palin
That is her provenance and her political pedigree.
I say all of these things, incidentally, as a life-long conservative Republican and as a faithful Roman Catholic.
From any more Quayles or Ws or Palins, O Lord, in your mercy, spare us. Grant our nation truly intelligent and truly faithful leaders who have both a sense of decency and a brain!
