Sarcasm--Not appropriate for Christians

When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.”
And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

Ouch.
Ouch, indeed, or Mary and Joseph, I presume?

And please let me elaborate on your excellent post:

It depends on the reading of the passage, doesn’t it? How does one envision a scene that has dialogue but no direction (like the name of a Shakespearean play I can’t remember…)

But envisioning the scene myself, I see two outcomes, depending on what response He received from His parents. If He said it with a soulful, sincere look, then they may have understood, and the Christ child may have been forgiven immediately (not to mention that incident may have been locked away in his mother’s heart, per Simeon’s prophecy).

If not, I fear the spanking he may have received from St. Joseph! 😉
