Her immaculate conception is hard to “prove” by scripture…the best hint being that the Angel said Mary was FULL OF GRACE. I accept the doctrine of the Church in this matter, but to imply that she was saved before her conception, again, implies she was pre-existent…which I and all good Catholics reject. That the merits of the cross of Christ flow backward and forward in time should surprise no one. The merits of Christ’s cross were applied to Mary at the moment of her conception…not before.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.

God is outside of time and can therefore have an affect on anything or anybody before, during or after we can reconcile it with our perception of time.

well, i never looked at it that way either until i read something by Scott Hahn, who has studied Catholicism in GREAT depth…

and then i think i heard something at CAF from some other expert also…

so don’t jump on me about it… although i DO agree… becausa Mary calls Jesus her Savior…

and if she was immaculately conceived, obviously she was saved before conception…

i guess we are all agreed,

Mary was without original sin

the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception is true… 🙂

JL: I would say Mary was saved the very instant of conception not before, not after. Sorta like when we are born with original sin. It happens the instant we are conceived not before, not after. When God created Mary’s soul at conception the Holy Spirit indwelled her soul. When God created our soul at conception the Holy Spirit does not indwell our soul. I hope this makes sense.
