As far as Im aware it is not a belief, its fact. Thats what the word means.
What happens to Job kinda highlights what I mean. The Angel who’s title is Satan, looks to be a very much a glass is half empty kinda guy. Always giving the negative to what men can and do…do.
If Satan is the devil, whats he doing back in Heaven again at this time? (although my memory IS hazy on this… i could be wrong)

“And what of Jesus’ comment that he saw Satan “fall” like lightening?”
Just like you seeing Satan and the Devil as one, PERHAPS the translators of the Gospels also basically said, Potatoe - PoTAToe.

All Ive heard and read is the…definition/role of Satan has changed over the years. It was only with the Babylonian exile that the devil was equated to the Satan. All that Dualism nonsense - Ahura Mazda and Ahriman.
Rev. 12:10 tells us that Satan is the “accuser of the brethren”. That’s what he was doing when he came before the Father in Job’s case. He was accusing God of being too lenient and giving Job too much. He wanted to strike him and make Job curse God.

As a matter of fact, it’s a wonderful reminder of God’s power and Satan’s limited power. What about Satan falling from Heaven? There was a war and the great Archangel Michael threw Satan out. In other words, Satan had to leave his “home”. Michael sent him packing 🙂

It really doesn’t and shouldn’t matter all that much whether or not the Devil, Lucifer and Satan are one in the same or different beings. They are rebellious apostate enemies of our Lord. The important thing is to understand how they operate in the world and affect us personally.

The Scriptures don’t give us details about these beings, just summaries. I wouldn’t dwell on these people too much. I find myself having to back away sometimes from immersing myself in dark things. My admonition to you is that unless you are a strong, faithful Christian, you should leave the study of dark things to others.

I may get some grunts from some readers about this admonition. I give it with all humility and with an eye towards the improvement of your soul. The path you seem to be treading is dangerous.

In this world, dualism exists - dark and light, good and bad, sweet and sour. That’s reality. They are reference points, i.e. point A to point B on a straight line, with space in between. Don’t get stuck in between.

Peace…

Well said. Thank you.

It is important to know your enemy. It is more important to know and focus on your Advocate in this case.

I think it would do most of us good to brush up a bit on our angel and demonology. But “lightly”. Our focus on the whole, indeed, should be on the Lord.

Satan is an evil angel whose task is to accuse men before God.

Lucifer was a Catholic bishop during the patristic period.
