The ability to cast out demons is intentional. I’m aware only trained exorcists are supposed to be able to do so. That’s one of the mysteries of Connor that confounds the Church. I agree that Jesus will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead. Revelation 1:7 says, "Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him.” I chose to treat Jesus’s and John’s statements about His return as symbolic rather than literal (Revelation is heavy with symbolism, and Jesus’s own statements about his return use some of the same symbolic descriptions as Revelation). The Church, though skeptical, rallies around Connor just in case the Scripture concerning His return has been interpreted too literally, in which case he could arrive as a boy who gradually becomes everything promised in the NT (per Matthew 24:27, the return of Christ will be like the brightness of lightning illuminating the entire sky from the east to the west. Verses 30 and 31 of the same chapter describe Jesus coming with power and great glory and with the sound of a great trumpet, that awakens the righteous dead who are then gathered from the ends of the earth.) Regardless of whether he is Jesus, Connor grows in power throughout book one as he visits places in the Middle East where Jesus first walked the Earth. Connor will be an intensely spiritual character. Meanwhile, the Church in Rome is being stalked by the Antichrist, and they hope Connor can help stop him, even though they don’t understand his existence.
