Our priest told us that ONLY those who work on Sunday may fulfill their Sunday obligation by attening Saturday p.m. Mass. Can this be true?
No. It’s not true. Our priest told us that ONLY those who work on Sunday may fulfill their Sunday obligation by attening Saturday p.m. Mass. Can this be true?
This is not true. From the Code of Canon Law:Our priest told us that ONLY those who work on Sunday may fulfill their Sunday obligation by attening Saturday p.m. Mass. Can this be true?
One does not need a special reason to assist at Mass on the evening of the preceding day.Can. 1248 §1. A person who assists at a Mass celebrated anywhere in a Catholic rite either on the feast day itself or in the evening of the preceding day satisfies the obligation of participating in the Mass.
No, either satisfies the Obligation , but Sunday IS the Lord’s Day.Our priest told us that ONLY those who work on Sunday may fulfill their Sunday obligation by attening Saturday p.m. Mass. Can this be true?
Nope, not true, the Saturday evening mass is just as valid as any Sunday mass. It is not a lesser mass in any way. Feel free to go to it at any time. Our priest told us that ONLY those who work on Sunday may fulfill their Sunday obligation by attening Saturday p.m. Mass. Can this be true?
I think we would have to know more about the priest and the parish. I have my suspicions, but it is on conjecture at this point.I’m wondering why a priest would spread false information like that.
That could be true (but I do not know it to be so). If it is, I wonder why they schedule Saturday evening services so liberally? It’s my understanding that many priests and bishops would prefer that people attend Mass on a Sunday if they are able.
I think it may be (taking into account what Marauder said) that even if a certain number of bishops and priests *prefer *that Catholics attend Mass on Sundays, they are more concerned that Catholics meet their obligation than they are about the day Catholics chose to meet that obligation. That could be true (but I do not know it to be so). If it is, I wonder why they schedule Saturday evening services so liberally?
