Saturday Vigil or Sunday Mass

Me, my wife and our four kids attend the Saturday Vigil every Saturday. I have recently heard that you are supposed to go to Mass on Sunday unless you have a really good reason and cannot make it, then you could go on Saturday. We go on Saturday because it is convenient for us and we thought we were fulfilling our Sunday obligation. Does anyone know the answer to this? Thanks!
 
Yeah. Tell whoever gave you that advice to go find the source of their statement.

Attending Mass on Saturday evening fulfills your obligation; there is no moral requirement that you go on Sunday unless you can’t, and then on Saturday as a second best alternative.
 
We’ve always gone on Saturday night, I don’t know why, it’s just what my husband did, and when we married we continued with it. I don’t know if it’s “more” convenient, it’s not like I have tons of appts on Sunday mornings, it’s just the tradition we’ve kept with, and it works well. I’ve never heard that Sunday was the day you’re ‘supposed’ to go. In our parish, all the masses are pretty full, I don’t think they could fit more people in the 2 Sunday morning masses.

You fulfill you Mass obligation at the Saturday vigil or on Sunday. This does not relieve us of the duty to “keep holy the Sabbath”. Sunday remains the day of “rest”, dedicated to God.

A good point.

We go to the vigil mass except in Winter, and we find that it extends our Sabboth. We have a meal as a family after the Mass, and have Sunday together. And it all starts with Mass.

Easiest way to think of it is that the Saturday Vigil is a Sunday Mass.

So the question would not be Saturday Vigil or Sunday Mass, it would be Sunday Mass or Sunday Mass.
 
There is nothing wrong with going to Saturday Vigil Mass to do other things on Sunday morning. I have been going to Saturday Vigil Mass for years so that I can do other things on Sunday morning like laying around the house, going to lunch and shopping. The only time that I go to Sunday morning Mass is on Easter Sunday because Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday is too long.

I did not say that I like to go to church on Saturday I stated that I like to go to Saturday Vigil Mass instead of on Sunday morning. I do not care that Saturday Vigil Mass is not mentioned in the Bible because the Vatican approved Saturday Vigil Mass over 30 years ago and I do not like to go to Mass on Sunday morning so that I can do other things on Sunday. The only time that I go to Sunday morning Mass is on Easter Sunday because the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday is too long. Is it required that Catholics pray the second half of the Hail Mary Prayer?

There is nothing wrong with going to the Saturday Vigil Mass.

Going to the Saturday Vigil Mass does fulfill the Sunday obligation.

In the Jewish Tradition, (or SDA), the Sabbath is sundown to sundown or counts as a day. In the Catholic Church, with the authority given by Christ to change rules and make them, Changed it to evening prayer to evening prayer. So The person who said Saturday Mass is really Sunday Mass is right!
